I've been wondering about lighting. I've seen the Hella 4000 lights and they look pretty cool but the price is a bit considerable (when you want to buy 6 of them).

Are there any comparable lights to the 4000? Anything better than the 4000?

jay -

the 4000 is a metal housing lamp that is very heavy duty - the 1000's are about the same size but lighter as they are polymer housings. i would recommend 4000 for brush bar install - 1000's for roof rack install.

drop me a line before you buy - i'm a hella agent and i think you will like my prices

Steve, I do plan to order those lights from you, honest.
Want an offical LR A-Bar though, I really do want those 4000's, and not opt for a cheap a-bar that will only fit 1000's or smaller.

Check out EBay. There is an individual on there that sells pairs of Hella 4000's on a regular basis. I bought mine for 180.00 and that included shipping.

Good Luck
Christian

There's a pic of a stuck Disco on the EE board at Pismo that has 7 Hella 4000's. When we saw him drive across the dunes Saturday night, the lights would shoot into the sky when he went up hills like a beacon. We saw him about 15 minutes before he made it to the camp. The whole time the lights would disappear and then shoot up into the stars (down and up the dunes). We had no idea what it was until he showed up at our door step. It looked like a freakin' search light or one of those things they put in front of used car lots or stores at night to light up the sky.

It may have turned night into day, but I'd hate to be the guy having to lead a night time trail run with him behind me....

(actually he had 8 Hella 4000's. one was rear facing.)

with 6 4000's you also provide heat. have you ever noticed the warmth that the 4000's produce even at 25 feet from the lamp. still like the idea of putting neon lights under the disco.

you gotta get your series one of those night time dimming rear view mirrors... :)

I want HELLA 4000's ... 2 pretty HELLA 4000's ... 2 nice shiny bright HELLA 4000's ... I keep slapping myself and saying "get a grip, other things first!" (like groceries, shoes for son, - well, not THAT bad ... LOL).

The kid can go barefoot. It builds character. Besides, the little punk will only grow out of them anyway while the Hellas are forever...
