My 96 DICSO with 52,550 has a strange clicking noise coming from the exhaust when accelerating. Engine sounds fine and truck drives fine. could it be the cat coverter? my other 97 sd7 has almost 65,000 miles and does not have this sound. I do all maitenance every 3000-4000 miles and was wandering if anyone has any ideas. I bought my 96 about 4,000 miles ago and it was serviced regulary but no stamps in the book. And is of courcse out of warranty. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Matt

Not sure what your clicking noise is - it's better to have it checked out by the person who does your servicing.

My 95 D1 with 140K miles starting this rattling noise from the exhaust several thousand miles ago. Turns out the heat sheild on something was rattling because it was loose. No way to fix it without replacing the exhaust. But it also is not a critical problem that would cause exhaust failure of dismemberment from the chassis.

So, I live with it.

Someday when the exhaust really rusts out and falls off at 90mph, I'll probably go with the NRP exhaust.

I had a similar prob last week, one of my exhaust manifold bolts backed out and fell out. I hsd to get a new one from the dealer $5. easy repair. Mike J.

jay, you would be amazed what you can un-rattle with a couple of long hose clamps. it's not the "right" way, but if you can tie the heat shield to whatever it is rattling against...no more rattle. just something to think about, since i don't know specifically what is causing your rattle..
