I was curious if anyone was running the 9/34 swammpers on their truck I have the RTE 3in setup and they look as if they would fit with a little trim and some steering adjustment. If any one knows it would be helpful. Also any pics of these on would be nice.

Hmmm...that's a tough one. Tom Pearson runs 32x9.5 on his RTE 3inch lift. If you run a tire size above 32 inches, it is recommended that you upgrade your gearing($1000), upgrade your front driveshaft($400) and upgrade your rear axle($600). The only available tire in 9/34 is the Special Service model. If I were you, i would just get some 235/85-16 or 265/75-16 Mud-terrain type tires.

That truck was built up by Expedition Autoworks in Hopkins MN. Give them a call and they can help you out.

...then let us all know what you find out !

That 9x34 Swamper is probably the only available tire usefully bigger then Pearson's 32x9.5 that might fit on a large lift D1.

P78 Hawgs or Buckshots "might" work too.

And those don't look like 34s on the white disco

For sh*ts and giggles I put the Buckshots from the 90 on the Disco. My Disco has about a 3in lift and the 265/85's(33.6in.) REALLY filled the wheel wells. To consider running these you would need atleast a 4in. lift, 6in. bumpstops, and if you have wider offset rims or spacers be prepared to take a few inches of of the rear fender and about a half inch off the rear door. Also prepare for a HD driveline upgrade to handle these big mofo's

HD driveline is a given with 32"+ tires...

Those 265/85's gotta be around 10.5" in cross section, though. Cut that width down to 9" and a lot of the lift requirements go away.

Nobody said it would be easy (or worth it...) :)

i think the next best size is the swamper 33x10.5r15 radials. i will be trying those some time when the tsl's wear out.

i think they will fit no problemo, even with the GBR rims on my 3" lift.

i am also gonna throw a 33x12.5r15 tsl on there someday on one wheel to test stuffage and amount of trimming needed.

by the way, if you're not locked up, do you REALLY need a HD drivetrain? seems overkill to me if somebody doesn't hop all over the place.

I don't see how the 1" increase from 32"-33" and the extra rubber make that big of a difference. I can understand with lockers and extreme wheeling the need for the HD stuff, but from what I understand, the short bus has basically the same drivetrain as the Disco, and those guys seem to run 33's and in some cases 35's with stock drivetrains.
I plan to go to 33x12.5 MTs in the future, but I plan to have my drivetrain beefed by then up as well.

>I don't see how the 1" increase from 32"-33" and the extra rubber make that big of a difference..

Regarding the Denman/Gateway Buckshots, at the time of trial I was running and had trimmed for 265/75's which were takeoff's from the D90. With about 30k on them I was looking at a diameter of 31" +/- .1". With the relatively new(at the time) 265/85's, the diameter was 33.6". So in my case there was a fairly large increase. Also, if you are familiar with the lug patterns of Buckshots(or TSL's for that matter) you'll notice they protrude about another .5" making the width around 9.5" and not the advertised 8.6". I'll try to post some pics of these tires on the Disco if anyone is interested.

>by the way, if you're not locked up, do you REALLY need a HD drivetrain

Again, speaking solely from my experience, I've broken 1/2 shafts(2) and a rear driveshaft with 33's on the 90(unlocked), and I consider myself a tame driver. From being around the D90 and LRO lists, this is also a common occurence, as it is also common knowlege the stock Rover drivetrain is not the strongest.

"Anything can fit if you want it to 35" Silverstone MT's"

On a 3-door all it takes is a saw - on a 5-door it's a little harder. Plus, you now have no stuff (see below).

"I don't see how the 1" increase from 32"-33" and the extra rubber make that big of a difference"

I originally commented about "usefully bigger". One inch is not usefull, 2.5-3" is, which is the size diff between a true 34" and some of the so-called 32" tires out there.

The real problem is going wide. Wide tires WILL require loosing all your up travel and becoming real unstable in the process.

fitting 35s is no mistery.
just put them on and chop away.
simple as that.

Yes, and weld the rear doors shut because if you chop too much, bye bye weatherstripping!
