(should read "possible belt whine") Had some fun today, lot of mud and water to boot. Now my Disco II has an off sound to it that increases with throttle acceleration--seems like it is coming from the belt or possibly pully area. The engine compartment did get a bit of muddy water in it (fortunately not the air intake). Any ideas?

Try putting some dry lube on on top off your belts and around the out side off your pullys if the wine continues there may be some dirty water trapped inside one off the bearings it may clear if not you will have to the pull of one at a time to try and eliminate what pully is at fault and take it from there.

DII's also had a recall for the tensioner pulley bearing - problem was made worse by mud/water ingress - You may just be able to get it taken care of as warranty regardless the of recall or circumstance.

If you really want to track it down - take a long screwdriver and put the tip on each drive accessory and idler and the handle to your ear (careful of all the rotating stuff!) and listen for the source of the whine.

No offense meant to Andrew above, but try to avoid "belt dressings" - in the long run they do more harm than good - all they do is mask the actual problem with the belt drive.
