I just got my alt rebuilt, and I still have a tachometer that works only part time. I have read from the BB that the belt could be routed wrong. Since I have no owners manual ,I don'thave a clue how the belt should be routed
Thanks
bRYAN

i'm gonna have that tattooed on my butt. seriously.....something i need to have in my truck at all times. would have saved me a boat load of time months ago.

bryan~ this is what happened to me. replaced the alt and lost a few hairs in the process before realizing my local shop had routed the belt wrong. sounds like this could be your issue. good luck.

Just got back from mechanic's shop. Sure enough the belt was routed completely wrong. Once we put it in the right place, it worked like a charm.
Thanks very much for the help

Is that for a DI or DII?

Now here's a funny....

I went by the shop, and Jeff was there with his Disco, and had been having problems with it. So I asked, and his symptoms were: tach not working, after awhile the ABS light came on, then the SRS light would come on, the battery would end up drained. Tested battery, it was fine, tested alternator, it was fine, so he was getting worried.

So.... I sent him around the block in my Disco "to check out the ride difference with my new tires"... Popped his hood to look, and quickly noticed that the belt ran from the air up across the alt and then over to the steering.... Yikes!!!

He pulls back in, and so I pop my hood to show him how mine is routed... We reroute his belt, he starts it up....

"Wow, my tach is working again!"....

:)

PS: Carl, can't say about a DII, but it'd work for a DI...

My belt is starting to wear. Where do you get a new belt, can I go anywhere? Or do I have to go to the $$$ dealer $$$?
Thanks,
Lynden
