Don't be mad, but it's not a Rover. It is a 1988 Isuzu Trooper II 4x4 130,000 miles 4 banger with one piston not fireing for some reason.

He wants $650.00, should I buy it for a toy (to tear up)?

Anyone have experience with the old Troopers, is it capable at all off road?

Thanks :)

The six is a POS. 4 is ok.

Tried to find a diesel trooper for a while there though :)

i had a 1991 and loved it. that 4cyle engine was a dog man, of course the chevey 2.8 wasnt that much better, but at least parts were cheap.

timing belts are notorius for breaking at around 100k on the 4 cyl

The dog may not run fast but at least it does not throw rods through the block :)

Upon further investigation, I found...

Frame is real rusty, crossmember under trany is almost completely rusted through on driver side.

rear driver side leaf spring has one broken peice.

Piston not fireing, may mean blown motor. Worst case about $3000 bucks, for new parts if I do labor. I don't know how cheap they are from a salvage yard.

Rear diff is dry on the outside, so it is either empty, or does not leak (yea right)

recently repoed from lossers that couldn't afford a 1988 Isuzu Trooper.

I am gonna sleeeeep on it till the end of the week. If someone else buys it, then it was never ment to be ;)

Well since I can't drive it to see if everything else works, and since I would rather have a little jeep for trashing, I am going to pass on this headache.

Anyone know where I can buy a junker jeep for less than $2000?

where are you located?

if there's not too much rust in your area, look for big jeeps - J-trucks/Wagoneers/Cherokees, from 1963 to 1991. Some come super-cheap, and they are 1/2 trucks with good hardware.

this was bought for $1500 -

I want a wrangler or CJ. I like the idea of no doors and no top, I already have the best "closed in" SUV in the world.

LAND ROVER :)

I would if they were available for less than $2000.

Plus there are not many in my part of the country anyway, Texas. Infact I have only seen ONE in real life, just this Monday at the L/R Dealer for repair.

Oh, you can find 'em for less.... you have to look, ask, look some more, ask some more.... be patient, stick with it, and you can find one.

But let me warn ya.... a series for less than $5k, and you'll be putting over $5k into it....

So, stick to your guns, and get it CHEAP, and build it up for yourself.

Read these pages thoroughly, they will serve you well....

William,

two suggestions:
(1) buy a big jeep and chop off the roof (i promised my daugter to do so once i roll mine)
(2) listen to Leslie and buy a Series.
Paul Archibald was selling one of his 88"s, at a very reasonable price (although >2k). I haven't heard from him in a couple of months, you can find his email from the lr-discovery list.

I know of a series in fairly good shape for 3k. You could yank the OD off it and sell it for 500 and you would be down to 2500. Driveable and everything.
