Does anyone have any experience with the TJM Bullbar? Good or bad. How does it compare to the more popular ARB?

Wasn't impressed with the TJM bars I've seen on other trucks (non-LR) compared to the ARB's on the same vehicle.

The TJM's seem to have some nice designs and some nice installation systems, but I don't think they are as well built or as rugged.

IMHO. YMMV. Just my $0.02

I own a TJM, and have no complaints. The bar has stood up to towing from the front recovery points, and pushing a disabled car. No warping, or bending of the frame, frame mounts, or bumper.

I also have a TJM on a vehicle for about 7 years and like it a lot. They quit carrying them for awhile here in the states but now have a new distibutor. I am waiting to get a TJM rear bumper for my Disco.

I'm not sure exactly what is available in US but in Aus there are a couple of options for the Disco. I have a T15 winch bar in steel powder coat black. As said above I have been very happy with it in every way. Aust range is http://www.tjmproducts.com.au/bull_bars.html

I have TJM bar on my disco the thing is quite heavy as its steel. Its of the car at the moment as im fitting a bigger intercooler and the thing is bloody heavy could not lift by my self. In saying that i know its built this strong for a reason haveing hit two kangaroos and a fence post trying to avoid another roo i am more than happy to carry that weight around. Hadze said that he was waiting for a rear bumper. I tryed to get one last month from head office in Brisbane but say the bumper has been discontinued and there were non in Australia. Distributors off TJM overseas may still have stock.

Thanks for all the input. I'm leaning towards the TJM for the styling and uniqueness. I just want it to be strong. Sounds like it is.

Two years ago, I just had to have a TJB bull bar. Like you, I just loved the unique look. I wrote to the factory in AUS for more info. They sent me a fantastic brochure (like 75 pages long) with great pictures and detailed info. Then they told me that they no longer sold in the US. I was pretty bummed!

Apparently, TJM (like ARB) does a lot of testing on all of their products. The bumpers seemed very well made and are designed to work with the air bags. I have seen only one here in the US at the Mid Atlantic Rally in fall 2000) and it looked good. If you can find one, I think you would be happy with it. Also, I have purchased several times from 4x4connection and have always been happy with their prices and service.

Best of luck,
Mike B.

www.desertrat.com

I called them about a year ago and asked if they have any, they said they might get a shipment in a couple of months. Might want to give them a call.

You can buy them (D1 rear bumper) through 4x4 connection in VA - I spoke to them at the MAR and they have 10 coming in shortly, but after that - will not again for months.

Yeah, they should be getting 10 by the end of this month. It will cost $620. They also have the front bull bar for $750.

I have been displeased by the ground clearance loss with the ARB's I have seen.

Are the TJM's significantly better?

No TJM like ARB are made over here in Oz. Our bars are more designed to kit things like roos and cattle. Thats why there bigger then your average bullbar. If your after huge clearnce then dont buy one made in Oz. Our bullbars are mostly used to protect us and the car from Animal strikes. And rock hoping isnt so popular over here like it seems to in the states. So we have little need for clearance like the $G. But i can tell you that there strong. :)

'Wow...that rear bumper looks good, where'd you get it? '

i got it for ~450$US several years ago back when hella was doing tjm distribution. my dealer gave me his price since it was drop shipped
directly to me. (i believe that my bumper was one of first three imported into the states at that time).

you give up some departure angle, but it's really strong.

one thing that i liked about it was that the rear bumper lights were retained.
depending on what year disco, some did not implement turn signals in the rear pillar clusters.
also, removal of the bumper lights at that time, caused (on the 96's), the turn signals to flash at double rate.
