Please excuse my ignorance. Just have few stupid questions and hope some of you can give me a clue.

1. A brush bar and a bull bar certainly look different, besides that, what are the main differents between them?

2. I like the look of a brush bar better, is it possible to fit a winch if I install the factory brush bar?

3. How strong is a brush bar, I have a sense that it is not a very strong gard. What is the function of a brush bar?

If this has been asked before, please direct me to the posting.

THANKS

brush bars are cosmetic, bull bars are functional. avg weight of brush bar is 30-40 lbs avg weight of bull bar is 100-120lbs.

brush bar is just that - to keep bushes away from the front of the car. these are the weakest and flimsiest of the bunch, mostly for looks only. in minor t/c's in the city - brush bars can actually wack the body and damage it more than having no bar at all!

a bull bar - or actually a kangaroo bar (bull sounds more manly) was meant to absorb the impact of animal strike - ie a grown 55kg male joey hits the front of your truck whilst you are travelling at 100kmph on a red dust road 800kms from the nearest petrol station - here in the states, the threat of animal stike is less as we have deer and lot less of them

here in the us, a third type of bar has emerged - the off road bar. meant to minimize approach angle whilst providing a housing for a winch and recovery points. but don't expect these to help you in an animal strike, as they are very close to the body and the hoops above the bumper channel are sometimes missing or weak.

so - if you like the look - get it for the look. it you like a protection - get the one that protects. personally i think an a bar or a roo bar is the way to go. others only like the off road bar.

all three provide
- front recovery points
- ability to mount a winch
- brush protection

but have different strengths and weaknesses.

When I lived in Radford I had to dodge whitetails every morning on my way to campus. Here in Kingsport, up in Ridgelands neighborhood, it's a regular event to hear about the damage that they do when someone pops one. It really seems that they've become a suburban nuisance critter....
