After a lot of indecision and seeing what was available on the market, I decided to make my own rear bumper. I relearned how to weld (aint Migs great) and over the course of a couple of weeks designed and built this rear bumper. Total cost for metal and bolts was ~ $250--excluding the Dixon Bate jaws The skid plate was the most expensive part that was cut and broken at a local sheet metal shop for $133. This is a very sturdy bumper and is attached directly to the frame with 4 bolts, indirectly to frame through the skid plate, and to the body in the wheel well area. If I have time, I will write a few paragraphs and add more pics.

Well, if you're not into making some more - how about sharing some plans! Looks pretty neat.

What is the tow hitch rating?

OMG, that is PHATTY!!!

Ya, if you make a space for lights and reflectors I would pay $600 one easy. Could you post a better shot of the rear sill area, I want to see what you did there.

Seriously, an awesome job , and I love how small and un-imposing it is.. If your not going to make them, some plans posted or for sale would be great. I bet I could find an iron worker to fab one up for me, the thought of me using a torch on metal isnt a good thing.

A local fab shop could put it together but you'll pay a lot more than a single DSU! This bumper was made from off the shelf metal so a lot of time butt welding (and grinding :()for the longer spans on and under the quarter panel. Being fabricated on my back door step--no joke--the lines are not perfect but the design is good and can be vastly improved upon. I will post more info and any measurements I recorded.

Two weekends ago a fellow Discoweb dude and I both foolishly followed someone into a mud hole. His SG fuel tank guard crumpled and the flimsy frame is now undergoing repairs. There is little scratch on mine.

fuck the reflectors and turn signals...just more shit to break, or run extension ligns up the D pillars and mount them on the roof. what's goin on aft of the rear wheels? looks like you wrap right around the fender & into the wheel well.
