I am a new Discovery owner, so take it easy on me. I have been looking at top racks and decided I want the LR Adventure Rack. Where should I buy? Dealer here has one that is what I would call a "demo". Its been on and off a vehicle at the showroom and driven to the local fairgrounds for a car show. It has a few scratches (dealer says they all come in scratched form the factory) and marks on the light tabs. He still wants $1100 + tax. Are there any "discount" dealers for these type things? I am in Oklahoma but would be willing to have it shipped or drive to pick it up. Any suggestions or should I just pry open the wallet.

I second Frank. I also got mine from Nathan under 1K. I also got the ladder so it came out to alittle over a G.

want a rack for under $50?
get four long rain gutter mounts from some place like Off Road Warehouse or industrial hardware supplier
get two pieces of Unistrut, cut them to the width you want your rack to be, and bolt'em to the mounts.
If you need something flat, a steel futon frame (part on which the mattress lay) will fit almost perfectly, bolt or hose-clamp both halves to the Unistruts. This part can be had for free, with 1/2 hr roaming around local college campus.

If you're super cool, spend $5 on a can of Krylon flat black paint, and bomb your roof rack.

you'd be amazed how good it will look, and how few people will recognize it as someone's crash pad :)

of course, its load rating will be in the neighborhood of 300lb

Brad,

The Adventure racks do not come scratched from the factory. When I received mine, it was in a large box, delivered to the dealer with FedEx labels.

There were no scratches until the first tree branches. After that, the scratches started. I would go to another dealer and see if they would be willing to order a new one.

Go with Nathan. He will treat you right. But I'd not be worried about the scratches. They get scratched up pretty quickly. I touch mine up occasionally with a satin black paint and it blends right in. After awhile, you stop caring about the scratches (in the roof rack that is. It adds character).

Thanks,
Mike B.

I bought mine from the local dealer for $960 final cost. Best price I could find.
