thanks,

That, I'd like to see. I love it when people exercise their ingenuity.

I got to ask this ... has anybody ever put a Series 109 body on a Disco frame? I know a guy that modified a Bronco frame and slipped under a Series III 88 - turned out really nice. I have access to an old Series with a rotted out frame and was wondering if I found a rolled Disco with a straight frame, if I could modify it and put it under the Series.

You'll be rearranging and fabricating mounts, and you'll be either chopping up the frame to insert extensions to lengthen it, or cutting up the body to shorten it, but it can be done....

Murray,

one bit of info - full size jeeps (Wagoneers and Cherokees) have 109" wheelbase... and, unlike some Bronco, have at least front 1/3 of the frame boxed, and solid axles f&r

Thanks - definitely gives me something to think about and keep my eyes open for. If I get the Series cheap enough, it can sit while I start scavenging. I will post the end product ...

I know somebody got a Disco frame and put a custom lengthened Defender body on it. He called it the Defender 100. He had to re-locate a lot of stuff like the shock towers.

Awesome! This has the all the makings of a great Junk Yard Wars edisode!! Reminds me of the time they used an old Series II to make something. Can't remember what it was though.

I'll be watching for you on TV!

Brian,

They made a amphibious vehicle.... it could float and go across a pont, climb out the other side, then run to the finish line on land.

Al,

Ron's packing for the MAR, I'd guess.... Ask again on Tuesday, after the holiday....

Al-
are you talking frontend axle parts? if so, you already have a 110 frontend. 110's used a rover front axle and Salisbury rear(basically a Dana60).
doing a swap will get you nowhere.
if it's body work you are asking about, YIKES!

hehe packing for MAR??? didn't know MAR was such a hard rally. Maybe he's been removing all those stickers off the truck.

Anyway thanks Leslie.

Craig - I mean the 110 front axle. Been looking for an affordable front axle setup. But a UK owner (Jamie Austin) set me straight. Only certain year 110's have the axle I'm looking for so the swap isn't worth it unless I somehow luck out and find a 110 front I can examine before buying. This whole thing got started when I started comparing the different "ultimate front axle packages" offered by Great Basin and Ashcroft. They all centered around the D110 1 ton CV's. So I assumed if I got a 110's front I could get bigger CV's, inner axles, and vented front rotors in one easy swap. Unfortunately only the axles with the huge flanges running certain years will have this. check out GBR and eastcoastrover.com for more info if you are curious. even then it will have some weak components to be replaced so in the end I will probably just get the setup from Bill at GBR.

Al,

Sorry man. I was driving to the MAR when you posted.

110 county cvs are NOT what you want, the reason being that the CVs are integral with the stub axle and they are expensive as hell. They are no stronger than the early 24spline RR cvs. What you do want is an 87-89 RR front axle with the early 24 spline cvs and a set of GBR or ashcroft 24spline inner axles to replace the 10splines at the dif. Askcroft sells the inners cheap and the cvs are cheap to replace. This will put you WAY ahead of GBR 32spline stuff and alloys all around. You lose ABS but otherwise it is an upgrade.

Cheers
Ron

Murry,

I would buy a designa frame to do what you want. By the time you modify the disco frame to fit the 109 you will be close to the cost of the designa frame in parts. Then just bolt the disco axles and drive train in, lengthen the rear disco shaft or use the 109 rear shaft and you are on your way.
