Just had a flat on one of my tires, so I put the spare on which has never been used. The other tires (stock 96 Discovery Michelins) are worn down to about 1/8 inch tread left. Would the difference in the diameters of the tires have an adverse affect on my differentials or anything? Thanks.
The reason I ask is a friend of mine ran a donut tire on car that had limited slip differentials and evidently messed them up.

Yes, different rolling diameters can mess you up, but in your case you should be OK for a while. Are you planning on replacing the worn tires soon, or are you going to ride with 3 old & one new for a long time?

I'm planning on buying some BFGoodrich MT T/A's. Just wondering if I should replace immediately or if it can wait a month or two. Common sense tells me to just do it now regardless.
I've read the past discussions on tire types, but does anyone know if the BFG MT's longevity will be similar to the stock Michelins? Thanks.

i had a long hard look at mt's and ended up ordering the bridgestone mt673. if you go to the tirerack survey section where they compare all consumer feed back of all the mt's at once -the bridgestones are #1 - bfg's are 5th or 9th.
the bridgestones will outlast the bfgs, are supposedly quieter, they have a new km style sidewall (or do km's have 673 style sidewalls?). take a look for youselves.... quite illumnating to see all the tires compared at once.

matt, you have open diffs? if so, the tire dimaeter thing should not matter.
chnage tires now if you can, it's never safe to drive on bad tires anyways. why risk it.
like steve says, shop around, go look at the tires, and pick your favorite.
i never thought the new michelin cross terrains were that big a deal. but i went in person to see and ended up getting them for the minivan.

Put the new spare on the rear axle FOR NOW...leaving equally wore tires in the front...otherwise your steering will be moving you into other lanes.
