How do you get it off? I got a replacement Donnelly mirror to replace the factory one and it uses a different button. So I need to get the factory one off. What's the best way to do this? I'm thinking of using a putty knife/scaper to try and get this off. Any tricks?

Tate - use nail polish remover (Acetone) and it will dissolve the cyanoacrylate adhesive used on the buttons) - just don't let it drip onto the dash

Good tip, Bill. Thanks.

Hey, one other question: how will the nail polish remover affect the "black spot" on the windshield where the button is? Will I need something to touch up this area after removing the button? I'll cover the dash before I do anything. :-)

Sorry - can't answer you on that one - why don't you try dabbing a little bit with a q-tip on the blacked out area first to see if it has any effect. I've only done it on windshields without any painted areas

Neither nail polish remover nor Goof Off would soften the glue at all. I ended up having the glass guy who resealed my windshield use a propane torch to heat up and pull the old one off. There's too much risk in doing that myself. :-) New mirror is now mounted awaiting wiring this evening. Hopefully it'll last longer than the LR Donnelly one. One thing for people contemplating this type of replacement is that the "wedge" mirror button has to be mounted further down on the windshield than the LR wierd one. Thus, a hair of the button is visible below the "black area" on the windshield. But it's not bad at all.
