The other day when I got home, I found that my drivers side window would not roll up. I could hear the motor turning, but no window movement.

I popped the Interior panel off and discovered that the curved metal piece that attaches to the window regulator was lying in the bottom of my door. I examined it and found that it had been attached to the regulator by three spot welds.

The ingenuity light came on, so I decided to drill three holes in the same location as the spot welds and put three screws in. This appeared to fix the problem, as the window went up and down several times without incident.

the next day, the window again refused to come up, I looked inside as best I could and could only determine that the assembly was bound up at the Window Motor. Suspecting that maybe the screw heads were too big, I removed the screws and used blind rivets. The window worked fine for several up/downs and then bound up again.

It seems like the gear is moving too far and is running out of the motor assembly when the window goes all the way down.

I cannot find any information about a stop adjustment, and there does not appear to be one. Is there some sort of alignment that must be done when a new Window Regulator is installed?

Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

You may have the semi-circle upside down. In the other direction, the top of the door sill is going to keep the window from going off the track - that's why the gear is open on one end. The stopped end of the gear is supposed to keep the window from falling down. If you turn it the other way around, it should work.

I thought of that, but I matched up the weld spots when I did the drilling. What I am beginning to suspect is that I may not have it aligned correctly so that when it gets to maximum (All the way down) it may be just a little bit out of sync and causing the teeth to be at just enough of a wrong angle to be "out".

Anybody know the price for a window regulator?

Mike

$50 used at http://www.motorcarsltd.com/ or $100 something at LR.

Replaced mine about 2 weeks ago.

I had this happen, just yesterday. I was told it was the regulator, and my dealer fixed it for ~$250.
Denver South Land Rover is the best service department I've encountered. I called them on my way over (:15 ETA) and they had a demo ready--back at my office in under an hour from when it broke. Who can say that about their dealership? Certainly not our Jeep dealer that, after putting in a new crankshaft (2000 TJ) last week, has to do it all over again next week, and after spending three days with no car provided, until I unleashed a bit of wrath.
