Karen, I got back last night around 6:30. I'm picking up my pics after work today. It was great. I learned alot about the capabilities of my DSII. The difference with CDL engaged was dramatic. I was going pretty much where everyone elso was (including D-90's with lockers). Did get stuck on top of some rock trying to follow John from RoverTym. My fault, not the truck's. Shouldn't have been there anyway. I'll post some pics here and on the DSII list tonight or tomorrow at latest.

Greg,
Were you in the silver DII getting tugged backward off of a rock by the BIG Rangie down in the creek?? You or not, it was a neat show..... It was already on the rock when I pulled up behind there.... really impressive rock....
I didn't have a digital camera from work , so I didn't get any good instant-post pics, BUT... as I get ahold of pics that friends took I'll post what I find....

Greg is on his way to being the Dis II man, he did the toughest trails with 20' nose dives(60 to 70 degree nose dives) into the river off of cliffs on new trails...and tried the tough river rock crawling...he and his truck were quite impressive. His first lessons learned will show later.

THE dis II man ? Damn , what about our boy George ? Poor George......

the only pics i have on my digital are just some pretty lame ones. of trevor getting wet in the river. and a few other ones as well. took some shots of the yellow RR on the rock at night from up above on the hill, but i doubt they will come out. they are on the 'regular' camera. i will send Ho the pics i have and he can toss them in the bunch that start coming in over the next few days.
had a good time for sure. no major breakages for me......just some nice dents and broken glass here and there.
got a chance to drive a IIA 4 hours + each way there and back. ouch.....
good to put a few faces to names as well.
ps: um.....i do have front recovery points right!!! hehe

John,
It was a pleasure finally meeting you! Trevor, and Garrett, it was fun running trails w/ ya Friday night... a lot of good wheelin'...
Actually, I missed some of you all too (Frank, Bill B)...
I've got better direction now on what I 'need' versus what I 'want'....
Actually, my 'need' list got smaller... my stock Disco (Series I, only mod is trimming for the 245/75s) did very well, no damage... even with the spoiler in place! I didn't try some of the things I saw (like the D90 backing up the STEEP nosedive slope out of the river, breaking a diff in the process!).... but I did enough to know that the Disco doesn't 'need' much at all....
I'm gonna still go for some of John's rock-sliders (sometime before too long, finances depending), but I'll get a rear pair of his springs before that. I 'want' a winch even more so, although I got through everything w/o one nor a tug... but in places it was more luck than skill, and a tug could easily have been needed.
I'll see if I can get a pic up soon of the mudbath that my Disco is wearing...

George has established his credentials no doubt I would say...Gregs the new kid on the block testing his limits very well. Like George, Greg is all heart..

The MAR was a blast for me as well. I ended up following a bunch of series trucks through all the trails, including the very steep and tall drop offs. It was probably the most difficult wheeling I have done to date. I was hoping to meet up with some of you other guys/gals from the Discoweb. I suppose I will have to wait until the next rally...or plan something event-independent.

Sorry I didn't get to meet all the other Discowebbers there - next time we need to make a meeting point or something. With 200 trucks, it was a bit overwhelming to find people you didn't already know!
My wife took all the pictures and I haven't even looked yet. Got back pretty late last night after following John B home and pulling his munched diff. Maybe this time I'll get arround to submitting some pictures (I keep telling myself that and then a Rover breaks and needs attention )
By John on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 08:24 am: Edit |
210 trucks was the tally I believe. Quite a well managed event with some great food. The new trails were outstanding for the event. Everyone had a great time as it seemed to me. The river offered all you may want in rocks and water. I could not believe the raffel and auction products. This was the best MAR to date IMO.
By Ho Chung (Ho) on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 08:34 am: Edit |
damn, 210 trucks.
must have been quite a sight.
PICS!!!

Greg Hren did all my photography...when he developes will do...
By Greg Davis on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 09:00 am: Edit |
Leslie, yes that was me. Didn't realize John was suckering me in 'till too late. He made it look sooo easy. Oh well. Just need bigger tires, more lift, more flex. Damn, it never ends!
By gp (Garrett) on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 09:02 am: Edit |
ok ok.....here are just a few. there are no really good action shots here, but just a few i had on my digital camera. more will post tomorrow after film is developed. hoping there are some other good pics others took of us.
By Greg Davis on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 09:03 am: Edit |
John, I'm not the DSII man, just pissed that I couldn't follow you. Didn't know enough to not try. I guess it was more ignorance than heart. But like they say, you never know until you try. I got the drop on video, but haven't seen it yet. Serious pucker factor.
By Kyle on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 09:07 am: Edit |
You locked up yet Greg? Perhaps you can avoid all the bullshit and get some lockers. Did John have his off as you were trying to follow ? I think the lockers will take you further then the Jeeper meats and the dropping wheels...
Kyle
By Greg Davis on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 09:22 am: Edit |
CDL w/ Traction Control. Iknow, I know! But it did a helluva job. Just didn't have enough clearance. Hung up on the center cross member. The wheels touching were pulling, just couldn't get over it.
By Bill Bettridge (Billb) on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 09:26 am: Edit |
Garrett - good one of Trevor - do you have the followup shot of the 6" of water pouring out after he opened the doors?
By Greg Davis on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 09:32 am: Edit |
Collin, it was good meeting you there. Sorry we didn't get to run more trails together. The night runs were a blast. Helped me justify my new Hellas to the wife. ;-)
By gp (Garrett) on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 09:36 am: Edit |
nope. don't have that pic......or the one of his two cameras submersed in water in the back!! DOH!!! wondering if he ever got them to work.
By Ho Chung (Ho) on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 10:02 am: Edit |
damn that was indeed a big gathering.
By Collin on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 10:44 am: Edit |
Greg,
It was good to meet you there as well. It would have been nice to run some of the more difficult trails there with fellow Discowebbers.
John, you lunched your diff? How and where?
Collin
By John on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 10:53 am: Edit |
Not me, a d-90 lost a diff...
By Bill Bettridge (Billb) on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 10:54 am: Edit |
Sorry for the confusion - John Bradshaw (RRC) munched his rear diff friday night - not John Bradley Smith who munched his rear door friday night
JBS certainly wouldn't need me to help him pull a 3rd member!
By Kyle on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 11:39 am: Edit |
Damn... Rear door now ? poor Disco......must have been "Extreme" they tell me that those things happens in "Extreme" situations....

Hey Garrett, great pictures! The one going through the woods is a calendar shot, really pretty pic.

What was up with that music Sat. night? Crazy old me, expecting maybe a Celtic band...
Good time, though, and nice to put some faces to names.

Garrett, The camera did survive and I now have 1 and 1/2 hours of various footage. It was nice to have put some faces with the names! Talk to you soon.

Wow, that must really be a pretty sight! 210 rovers! . I have to really plan on going next year. (hopefully by that time I'd have put my mods in my truck). Anyone heard from ROAV president? I hope he's doing fine after that freak accident. I'm sure he'd be glad to hear that the event was a success. Thanks for the teaser pics Garret...can't wait to see the rest!
By Greg Davis on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 03:52 pm: Edit |
John, I gave my rear bumper to Greg H on Sunday. He's installing it this week for Moab. Wanted it for his DSII buildup article.
By Greg Davis on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 03:54 pm: Edit |
Glenn, they announced Sat night that Stewart was up and walking around and he's scheduled to come home this week. Miraculous recovery.
By gp (Garrett) on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 04:30 pm: Edit |
yeah that pic in the woods took me hours to set up. had some nice back light and the tripod set up well. then of course i had the smoke machine going in the back with some nice Micheal Bolton music in the background!!! was not as easy as it looked.
actually i was just trying to keep up with Alyssa the mad woman!!! she has a heavy foot and was kicking up some dust. just looked good and snapped the pic.
will be picking up the rest tomorrow at noon. i will hopefully be getting some more from others. and like trevor said he will hopefully have some footage to show. good to hear the camera made it through the flood in the back seat.

Enoch,
Didn't you blast the Johnny Clegg at 'em? (G) The first line of "One (Hu)man, One Vote" has been ringing in my head for days: "The West is sleeping in a fragile freedom...."
Greg, that's great news about the recovery of the Prez of the Club.
Garrett, don't you just love a Sales Guide who really knows her stuff? Alyssa and Heather's photo galleries here really have inspired me.
210 Land Rovers....geez, had to have been quite the sight to see.
Karen
By Leslie N. Bright (Leslie) on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 05:32 pm: Edit |
Latest I've heard was 220 Rovers, give or take...
Lots of fun.....
And best of all, Stuart's headed home!!! They actually have used the term 'miraculous'. A piece of his skull, approx 5" long, was extracted from his head and frozen to prevent infection. Plan is to clean it and reinstall it after the swelling has been managed.... (at least that's the way I understand what I've pieced together!).

Man, 210 rovers, that's a lot of rich people running around. They must have been playing polo, and stuff... just a running commentary on the URS topic.

By 94Rover on Tuesday, October 09, 2001 - 06:19 pm: Edit |
Nah Lynden they talked mostly about their stock options, investment and sweep accounts....
stock options= removing all stock O.E.M items and replacing with updated, sometimes better equipment...
investment= is our vehicle appreciating or depreciating as the months pass by since purchased as New New or "Used New"...
sweep accounts= extra income earned while working various odd jobs to support the addictive behaviors normally associated with Rover owners(purchases, upgrades, maintenence, etc...)
Wish I could've been there........maybe next year...I've been saying that for two years now.

A Stuart Moore update.
Mike Boggs and I visited him Thur. before the rallye. They had him up out of bed once on Thursday, but apparently more over the weekend. He has a 3x3 or so piece of skull removed, to relieve pressure. The doctors hope to put it back in place at some future date, yet unknown. (maybe weeks, maybe months). He was able to recognize me and hold a very brief conversation Thurs. Apparently even since then he has made huge leaps forward, and they are talking about releasing him this week. Initially the doctors thought he might be in the hospital for 3-4 weeks. Quite amazing. I told him of all the well wishers on DiscoWeb, and he appreciated it. In his place, every little bit helps.
