I have a 3" RT lift and still have the old 245/75s. I am looking at 235/85s, 265/75s and 255/85. I have seen 255/85 on a Disco 1 with the stage III (3"lift). But is it worth the extra work. And how hard would it be?? Gears and some trim work? Much more? Any ideas?

3" is not enough lift. I currently run 4" and would consider that barely adequate. I know a few guys that tried with 3" but you gotta understand that after you add more weight you are going to butcher a lot of your sheet metal during full compression/the times you run with a lot of weight/extra passengers/ etc... etc... Put your money towards regearing, spare parts, tools, recovery equipment, lockers, driveshafts.

LOL
steve, stop that shit. LOL
ok, 255/85... is it worth it?
mike, let me ask you something... how tolerant are you about ride quality and handling? i am sure you won't believe me if i tell you that i dont' get no vibes, and that the disco handles and drives better than stock.

Ho,
How much extra work? Do you have any flex left? Handling is important (I am running bilstein 12" shocks). Did it take a ton of trimmmming? Do the tires hit in the well? Do you have more than a 3" lift?
Thanks
ps I have your spring retainers

driveline angles, arms, spacers, bump stops, little trimming, tires hit well, about 3 inches........ and on and on and on...
there are vibes still due to the caster corrected arms, and some panhard rod issues.
still have decent amount of flex.

one must have patience to be a jedi. fear leads to anger, and anger leads to the darkside....

steve, you ever seen jedi getting his ass kicked? LOL
it happens when the almighty sammy shows up on the trails.

Yes young Jedi. Always a threat there is. Powerful the Sammies are. Invincible the Land Rovers are not. The Hammers you must visit. There you will learn.
Save you the 255/85's will not. Much rubbing I sense in that set-up, much rubbing. Exaggerated amounts of lift and lengthened suspension arms you will require. Twisted driveline angles I see in your future. Suffer your handling will.
Biggie tires? Sexy flex? Top dog status? A Jedi craves not these things.

255/85s, turned Vader to the dark side they did. Don't under estimate the power of the dark need for 33" tyres. Future, hard to see it is. 255/85s in the future? Unlikely, unlikely.

Hi all,
I fitted 255/85/16 to my Disco S1 - quite a bit of work, but _definitely_ worth it in the end! Other than a little wander at 110Kph +, the handling is fine and the off-road performance is greatly enhanced.
I have +2" springs and +2" body lift - a fair bit of cutting involved, but not much else.
Cheers,
Gordon

I didn't think I would see this old post of mine, this was way down the list.
Gordon,
With 4" of lift plus another 2" or so in tire lift, I would start to worry about roll over with my roof rack loaded.
