Will a newer heated windshield fit on 97 Discovery...I read somewhere that the newer windshield is heated and the 97 is prewired.....
My windshield is being replaced due to a rock on the highway

I called a friend that owns a glass shop in AZ and they told me the D2 windows are 28x61 and the pre 99 D1 is a 25x62 window and there was no option for heated windshield for the D1. Looks like your out of luck.

"was no option for heated windshield for the D1."
UK ES DIs and some northern countrys had heated DI windscreens. Maybe someone has a PN to post? Also a RR classic windscreen is the same size as a disco I windscreen so you might want to try that.

My D1 has the heated windshield connections -just not the windshield itself

I can confirm that my 97 ES (UK) has indeed got a heated "windscreen"

Hey Pete, can you call your dealer and tell them you need a PN to get a new one?
Cheers

I just had my windshield replaced and I had no pre-existing wiring, secondly, I asked the tech if he had installed heated shields on Discos before, and he replied that he had done 3 before.

So does anyone here in the US replaced theirs with a heated one and what is the part number...I'm getting the OE replacement on Friday but would love to swing a deal for a heated on if they are flexible.
Thanks

is it better to get a winshield from the dealer or is it better to get one from a glass specialist? I need a new one also.

Thanks.

Get it from a glass autospecialist - in Norway their price is at 50% of genuine ones. Prices were these:
* New from autoglass, non-ELectric: NOK 1.875,-
* New from autoglass, EL: NOK 5.955
* New from LR, EL: NOK 12.500,-
You get the figure even if you don't understand the prices.
Just call any autoglasscompany, they should be able to supply.
Don't let them bother you if your particular truck isn't listed - any Disco series 1 windscreen should fit, as should also RR Classics (only difference seem to be the tinting up top). Just check the colour of the screen.
Adrian:
How did you wire up your screen: minus on the two up top and live wire at each side? Did you make up a timerrelay?
Roverly Yours, Frode
