I have a 96 disco and want the ARB for a winch bumper. I've been told you lose approach angle with the airbag version but I haven't seen one other then pics on net. Just how much lower is the airbag version. It's my wives daily driver so the safer the better(she's not best driver in the world, but you didn't hear that from me).

Erik, check the archives. There have been several discussions on this already.

If you use a winch on the airbag bumper it will get exposed to water splashing from the tires every time you go through a puddle, never mind a creek or a mud hole. The winch mount needs to be changed to a top mount. If not, your winch will become filled with water and mud very easily. I found out the hard way :)

Also, the airbag version has a bad habit of rotating and damaging the truck that it's on....

Erik, without a winch the air bag version might have a better approach angle, but any ARB will stick way out there. Consider that they were originally designed for Aus use driving on remote country and gravel roads with the occaisional washout. A non air bag version might work fine for the wife. It will keep shopping carts and small deer from preventing forward progress.

I know this sounds like a crazy question, but does the non-air bag version still deploy the airbag? I though I saw someone post that it would in an earlier post, but now I can't find it -- maybe I imagine the whole thing :)

The bags will still deploy. The air-bag compatable bars use crush cans were as the non-airbag connect straight to the truck. Cruch cans are used to try to duplicate the trucks original crush rate. (Basically get best airbag deployment similar to that of the original truck)

Crush cans are in red The non-airbag bars dont have crush cans so the bar becomes one piece. Sorry no pics. Might be able to take one this afternoon for you though.
