Hi,

I ordered the RTE 2" springs but would like to get some feedback on
what shocks to use. My current vehicle spec is listed below:

97 Discovery SE
Diff Protectors
ARB winch nonairbag bumper
RN front skid plate
RTE HD sliders
Pirelli Scorpion AT (245/70-16)

I will be installing the 2" lift soon and am leaning towards the
Rancho shocks(9207(f) & 9234(r)). I would like to end up with well
balanced suspension lift w/ good onroad manners & better-than-stock
offroad performance.

What shocks do you recommend ? How do the Ranchos perform ? Do
Bilstein offer any long travel shocks that does not break the bank ?
Ideally I would like to get correct length shocks (even if this means
loosing some travel) for the 2" lift setup.

Should I expect driveline vibrations with this setup ?

Do I need extended brake lines ?

Thanks for any input.

Jay R.

With the 9234's in the rear, you will have to replace the rear upper shock mounts. The top shock mount is the 'eye' type. The 9234's are 1/2" (designed for a Ford F250) and the stock shock mounts are closer to 3/4". I used the ones from RoverTym. The advantage is that they are a direct bolt on (no drilling, etc.) and move the mount up 1" and forward about 1". This allows the much longer 9234 shock to fit nicely. This setup will give you about 6" more travel in the rear. Email me if you have questions.

Thanks,
Mike

I am using OME heavy with the 2" RTE springs on the front and rear of my 94. I find the ride quality and on -road manners to be quite acceptable. My only other comparison would be the Bilsteins that we install in a majority of our customers vehicles. Most of the m are not used off road but the feedback on the Bilstiens has always been positive.
I did have some driveline vibration that was eliminated by replacing the rear drive shaft with the u-joint style shaft that your Disco probably came with.
I am also running the 235/80/16 Dunlop Radial Mud Rovers mounted on another set of wheels- a little noisy but excellent off road.
You do not need extended brake hoses with the OME or Bilstein shocks.
