Lately, in the mornings after sitting out overnight, our '96 Disco has had a hard time starting. You get in turn the key, and all that will happen is the engine will turn over, but the engine will not fire. After getting it started in the morning, there will not be any more starting problems the rest of the day....only in the mornings. What could the possible problems be?

Coolant temp sender. The ECU doesn't know the engine is cold. There less than 20.00 and if you can change a spark pulg you will have no problems.

Can anyone elaborate in relativly great detail on this topic. I too might be suffering and would like to narrow this one down. I thought it might be a fuel pump on the fritz!

Sensor in water tells injection 'cold start time - richen it up for a while, and lift idle'. It does this by showing high resistance ~2-3k ohms or such. As it warms up, it goes down to ~250-300 Ohms around 80C. Check resistance with a DVM. Same thing for a fuel temp sensor, but these have much less effect. If these fail low (shorted, 0 ohms) - remove connector, start, warm up a bit, replace (else it will run rich all the time). If failed high reading, start, then fit a 250 ohm 1/2 watt resistor across end of connector. LR EFI book recommends carrying such a resistor for this very purpose, to get you home.
