Sorry for the double post, I didn't realise that I originally posted this one inside the other thread!

For the past few weeks I have been having a power steering inconsistency problem. Every once in a while (like every other day or so) the steering will become hard to turn while doing low speed maneuvering (like parking). This does not happen on a regular basis and can happen when the engine is cold at the beginning of the day or even after the D1 has been running all day.

I checked the Power Steering Fluid levels and it seems to be in order. Does anyone have any ideas? \

BTW, mine is a 1995 Discovery

Among other things, iIt could be dirt in the fluid/pump or it could be the steering dampner. Sometimes dirt gets packed up in the steering dampner and it won't compress properly. Does this problem normally happen when turning left or in both directions?

Thanks,
Mike B.

It happens to me when I turn right ... and so far only when the engine is cold.

This intermittent irritation happens in both directions and seemingly irregardless of the engine temp.

Ball joints? I have two on the way out--the front right and rear left. It makes the steering feel like it has two stiff spots, either side of center. This was accentuated when I removed my bumper and winch. I sprayed Wd40 in the ball joints where the rubber boot had been torn open. Feels a lot better and is ok for a temp fix.
