When I shut off my truck this morning, I heard a gurgling sound behind the dash. It sounded like someone blowing bubbles in a 5-gallon bucket with a diving snorkel. What could this be? For the last week or so, I have heard water noises when I start the truck up. What is this?

Actually topping off might not do it. I have had an air bubble back there for some months that is noticeable on start up. It occurred when I changed out the heater hoses, and I haven't been able to get rid of it by topping off the system.

Any suggestions?

Yeah , you can remove a sensor or the out bound heater hose then fill the system till it runs out. That should get all the air out.

Well, it heated up on me yesterday on my way to one of my clients. I ran the heat and stopped a lot. Of course it heated up 70 miles from home. 35 of those miles were in city traffic. It took me 3 hours to get it home. I think that it is the thermostat. I am picking one up in a few hours and will change it tonight. I tried to keep it from getting too hot. I hit the hot mark twice moving to the shoulder in traffic. What is the chance that I did any damage? Are these engines pretty tough?
Also, does anyone have any tricks to changing the thermostat. It looks pretty simple to me.

try to bleed the system with the bleeder valve thing on top of the engine.
Just find this little silver metal spring loaded piece, it might have a tiny bit of coolant on it, and turn that wire/spring trap. Some coolant should gurgle out a little, and I think that that is supposed to let all the air out. Its really easy to find, and is next to the plenum chamber on the passenger (right) side of the truck. its on the very top of the engine. Its the passenger side on an american disco. good luck, and I hope that helps you out before you pull hoses and stuff.
