Does anyone have this? British Pacific makes them for the Defender and D1, unfortunately I have a d2. It mounts into your reciever hitch. This seems like an awesome idea, it 1- holds 2 jerry cans and has an optional basket to carry collers etc. 2- keeps the center of gravity low. I e-mailed them and they said it wont apply to a D2 which is a bummer {don't understand why?} It seems to be a better option to the roof rack. Most of the rigs I see in photos etc. just have two jerry cans on the roof and maybe 2 water cans and the rest is empty. this setup also gets the weight of larger tires off the hinges. feedback is needed, Matt G

If your really after this concept then Kaymar in Australia sell somthing to this idea but you have to replace the rear bumper in order to achieve it.
You can get it in twin pivots. So a tire and a jerry can mounted on the bar. It expensive to get a whole setup like this though. I know ARB deal Kaymar in Oz not sure about the states though.
Not sure if they sell for d2 try emailing.

Kaymar Oz.
Kaymar bar in tech section.

I have fair amount of experiance and fustration in dealing with a few of these units. They are a nightmare to assemble. Even if you are lucky enough to get all the proper parts from the start, the directions are horrid at best. I have dealt with both the bumper and hitch mount versions of the units. I had to email and compile many pictures from other who already had the unit just to get an idea of what parts I was looking at and where things were supposed to go.
Just so that people are aware, BP was not the manufacture of these units. They used to be getting them from a 3rd party fabricator.

A sturdy fat tire mount with strength for jerry cans, burly ladder, hi-lift, small rack, etc...gee, everyone other 4X4 has this as an option...why not Rover. Can you say "corner the market?" All I want for Christmas is a shop, welder, and endless supplies...and a shitload of cash wouldn't hurt either.

My wife's job situation has recently changed so I will have my weekends back to fabricate. One of my next projects will be a swing-away carrier for my rear bumper for DSII's. First is rear skid (already started) then the carrier. Hopefully it will carry spare as well as Hi-Lift and fuel/water can or CO2 tank. Just wanted to let you know.

Thanks Greg, I dont want my weight on the roof, also Greg don't forget to create a light bar! Looked at Thule bars but seem to tall. The only roof rack I would get would be safety devices, if greg is working on a rear bumper/skid/swing-away I bet it will serve more purposes and be under 1000 clams!

AB sells a quick disconnect kit. That might be the best bet for you. I too am a little reluctant to throw my sway bars out the window (lots of mountain driving in my neck of woods) but I've thought of the quick disconnect. What's other's experience???
