Ok, my remote went the way of the Dodo when the clip broke off. So, I've been manually locking and unlocking the D1. But lately I've noticed that the lights no longer blink when I lock the D1 (and supposedly arm the alarm).

The other day, my cousin triggered the alarm by opening the passenger door, so I guess the alarm is going on but just not blinking lights.

Is this a sign of trouble or something to be concerned about?

I have a 95 Disco and thought that it was normal for the lights not to blink when I first got it. Turns out I had a battery that would never fully charge, and as a result my lights would never blink when I locked or unlocked it, and sometimes my locks would not fully pop up and unlock. When the battery finally went completely dead (in a really bad spot I might add) I replaced it with a new battery and all the sudden my lights would blink and my locks would fully open. Strangest thing I have ever seen...Gotta love those Land Rover electrical systems.

I have a 95 Disco. Had almost the same dilemma but was just trying to disable my annoying alarm. Thought I had done it by just removing the two alarm fuses I think on satellite 1 or 2 can't remember. Anyway I had no more flashing lights. Then one day my son decided to unlock the passenger side & then the alarm sounded. So back to your problem I would check the 2 alarm fuses to make sure they are not blown.

When you set the alarm, the system checks to see if the doors have properly been locked, and if the hood is closed. If it thinks the doors are not locked or the hood is open then the lights will not flash. On my '95, there is a little red light directly below the radio the flashes for 8 seconds immediatly when you set the alarm. If there is a "mislock," then that light will flash 10 seconds after the alarm has been set and the hazard lights will not flash.

According to the Land Rover workshop manual it saids that without the "handset, the alarm is only partially armed." whatever that means.

I've really been disappointed by this workshop manual. When I try to help some who was trying to replace their brakes & rotors, the silly manual covered just about everything execpt for the replacement of rotors. And the instructions of everything else isn't really in depth -- they just barely touch on the topic.

I bought the manual to get some familiarity with the truck and to see how difficult the repairs would be. So far, I don't know how useful this manual will be to me.

Rovercon:

Which manual do you have? The LR Workshop manual? The one in the binder of the one that is bound? I have the bound LR Workshop manual for my 98 Discovery and it's missing quite a bit. I was wondering if the one in the binder is any better.

Thanks,
Mike B.

Well, last night I went to the Opera and used my spare keyset with the spare remote. Still no blinking lights.

As far as the battery, it should be okay. The one I am using currently is a Red Top Optima that I installed in April and I have a high-charge alternator that should be working fine.

I will double check the fuses tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice!
