can anyone tell me what options i have with lrna in dealing with my 2000 disco II, it has 27,000 miles on it and here are the problems it had and has.
1. coil packs needed to replaced. 12,000 miles.
2. headlight washer fell off 12,500 miles.
3. front drive shaft fell of while i was driving 65mph on the high way (dangerous) and slamed into the tranny breaking it too both had to be replaced. 14,000 miles.
4. radiator needs to replaced the dealer told me leaking 17,000 miles.
5. rear door does not open at all lock is broke.
6. dash lighs go on and off.
7. door seals on rear doors fell off.
8. cup holders broken.
9. captin chair arm rest needed to be replaced.
10. oil pan bolt thread had been striped while oil change at the dealer.

the automaster lr dealer has been great with dealing with these problems but they are two hours away and gave me a free 12,ooo mile extened warranty for the drive train. but i was wondering if land rover takes will help me atain a new dis or at least a dealer sample for my lemon or has any type of program like that. this is hands down the worst vehicle i ever owned i would give it back in a minute for my 97. thanks i hope some out there can help me. bruce8305@yahoo.com

LRNA sucks. I dealt with them on my freaking alpine windows and even filed a complaint to the attorney general.. Good luck.. Better gain some legal help on this one.

I would get them to give you a Full 2 year 24k extended warranty as I have. You are correct in complaining about a 40k vehicle with many known problems.

good luck!

Bruce, judging by the problems you list, claiming a lemon is not likely. Usually to claim a lemon you need to document a reoccurring critical problem that cannot be fixed in Xhrs of down time. Most of the problems you list are trivial and it sounds like the important ones were immediately repaired.

If you like the vehicle, I would take Carl's advice and push the dealer for an extended warranty for all the hassle on your part--LRNA may pay for some of this. Once all the seals, cupholder, and armrest shit is sorted out, you can look forward to replacing all those electrical sensors that are bound to fail with all the abuse you throw at it.

Bruce,

I have a 1999 Disco.

So far I have had over 20 warranty faults including a tow to workshop faults.

Essentially Land Rovers are a bucket of ****. No quality no anything. In some circumstances not even a 4 wheel drive, it reverts to front wheel drive. ETC much vaunted pity doesn't work. We have to admit that we made a serious mistake in buying crap.

I have had mine 8 months only done 8750 miles and am looking now to get rid of the Disco. Just too much crap.

Only problem how not to loose our shirts when we sell them. The best offer I have had is a loss of $ 35000 from my buy price.

Misery in owning a Land Rover

Tony

That sucks!

A real lemon you have there. I can only say that my Disco 1 has been the most reliable car I have ever had.

Research the Lemon Law in your state. Otherwise, fix all the problems and hope for the best. To sell it will surely cost you a bundle.

I have over 60,000 miles on my 97 disco, I have never had any warranty issues. Its only been back to the dealer for routine maintenence. Hands down, the BEST truck I have ever owned. Oh yeah, of those 60,000 miles, at least 20,000 of them are off-road. If you use the truck for what it was built for, then you wont have problems. if you use it to take 2 miles trips to the store than you will. I am convinced the more you abuse these trucks the better they are.

I have a 99 Disco II and have no issues other than service recalls and waiting 1 month to get the oil changed. Sounds like you got a bad one..

I totally agree with donkeydon. If you pamper this truck all problems occur. I had mine used only once a week, problem starts with tak-tak -tak sound when starting cold, then valve cover gasket leak. Then I decided to abuse it like flooring the gas pedal everytime I accelerate. Anything Im doing to break it. Now the leaks are gone and engine runs smoother.

I have a Discovery Series II with only 18,000 miles on it and I have horrible brakes! I took my car in for another of many problems I've had and asked them to check the brakes after I heard a horror story from someone else in the waiting room who's brakes had given out completely! Well, I found out that 85% of my brake pads were gone! After only 18,000 miles too! So I had to get $500 of non-warranty work done to fix this problem. They also are now saying that every series II should have their brakes checked every 3,000 miles-but "there's no problem with the brakes." I was wondering if anyone else has had brake problems, if so, please post a message or e-mail me asap, I'm trying to get something done, these cars claim to be safe and they seem to be lying-they are not.

yeah...I have had some brake problems on my 94 Disco. Usually when I stop the vehicle I just lightly press the brake and that stops it in a short distance. But sometimes I have to completely floor the brake to stop(and it stops very slowly) and that is one scary feeling. I never really did anything about it because it just lasts for a day then goes back to normal.

this is a 5000 lbs vehicle. That alone wears out brakes. If you ride the brake alot they will burn out in 18,000 miles. I have a 5-speed, so I use the motor to brake more often than I use the brakes, mine have close to 40,000 miles on them. I dont think that is very abnormal, but I could very wrong, anyone?

18,000 miles sounds a little low for life of brake pads - I assume Angie's talking about the front pads. However, a lot depends on driving style. I have a 96 Disco and I finally replaced my rear pads because they were so old, not necessarily because they were thin. I got around 25,000 out of the front pads, and I stomp on the gas and consequently have to stomp on the brakes quite a bit, too. You may get 30,000 miles out of the front pads on a Geo Tracker, but then you'd be driving a Geo Tracker, wouldn't you? :)

average 65,000 on my pads, I went though 2 set of front and one set of rear, 1 set of rotors (front and rear) I am on my third set of pads (kelvar/carbon) and it stops better. I have 150,000 miles on my disco1 1995, no real "big" problems, but all the "little" problems do add up. The stalling problem and rough idles is probably most stressful. Since my last post (aftermarket stepper motor), I had replaced Engine temp, Fuel temp, speed sensor, cooling temp switch, so far, idles fine...... but let see how long the DiscoGod extends mercey on my little disco1

Nothing a stick of dynamite can't fix

65,000 pad life??? Do you only drive uphill?

Hans Stuck (Audi/Porsche driver) said..."more gas.. less brake"

That's my story and I am sticking with it.

65,000?@?#$#?@ Unless thats 65,000 miles strapped to a dyno, how could you possibly get that kind of mileage out a set of pads? Is your truck a manual transmission?

Fellows,

I am just posting from what I experienced, First owner, 150,000miles, on 3th set of brake pads. What else do you want? I did not keep track of wind directions, maybe my disco has so much drag that it natually slow itself down.

Ken
