Dealer noted on recent service invoice that the jurid coupler is cracked. Didn't seem concerned that it needed to be replaced at this time. What is it and what does it do? Thanks...

Probably the Rotoflex - rubber "donut" which takes the place of a proper rear u-joint between the propshaft and the rear diff. Very known for cracking.
