First, thanks to everyones response to my earlier post and thanks to Nathan Crabtree for saving me $200 on the "demo" rack at my local dealer(don't know how he does it but the dealer wouldn't cut anything off full retail price 2 weeks ago for same rack).
Can someone tell me the differences between a D1 and DII Adventure rack. After touching up the scratches and chips we put the rack on our DII and it appeared to fit OK but had 2 different style clamps. Three appeared to fit the gutter correctly and five appeared to be for a "shorter" gutter.
I think I have the correct rack but some wrong clamps. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

Your's should look like this, right?
When I installed my adventure rack, it also seemed like it wasn't going to fit, I guess they can't make it straight. But once you bolt it down, it should be ok.

From a distance both D1 and D2 Adventure racks look the same to me. The rack seems to fit my D2 OK but only 3 of the clamps seem to fit the gutter. Is the D2 gutter "taller" than the D1?

While the D1 and D2 Adventure Rack look relatively the same (it looks like a D1 rack on the white D2 though - but I could be wrong) their lengths are different.
When we installed my D2 Adventure Rack on my D1, we found the mounting points to just barely fit the length of the rain gutters (whew!). However, we did find the rear mounts to be a shade narrow for the D1, so we had to tweak and torque the mounts apart just a bit to properly seat themselves.
My rack did not simply set on top of the rails perfectly seated. After tweaking the mounts to to the rails, there is a mounting plate with a lower bolt that bolts into the vertical rail and then two face bolts that secure the mounting plate to the mount (did that make sense?). The vertical bolt is the force which actually pulls the rack to the rain gutters and the plate bolts act as a lock over the whole contraption.
As you can see in this pic (at least I hope this works), the D2 A-Rack is a bit longer than the D1.

Oops, sorry it's so darn small. Let me try again.

The D1 rack is shorter than the D2 rack. If you have a D2 the rack should span to the end of the gutters, and vis versa for a D1.

Found out the scoop on the gutter rail clamps (hardware kit) for those who are interested. The D1 has a shorter gutter and therefore can use the shorter clamps. D2 has a tall moulding around gutter and must have the clamps with a wider cutout.
Parts guy at the local LR dealer told me clips were all the same (even though I showed him the 2 different styles he supplied with the rack) and you will ruin the gutter trim on a D2 if you put on an Adventure Rack. His reasoning behind this statement was "after we took this rack off our demo vehicle the trim was ruined and we had to replace before selling the vehicle." I got him to order a new hardware kit and magically all the clamps fit my D2 gutter.
Ok, enough bitching, I gotta go order some new Hellas!
