I had the new BFG Commercial T/A Trac's in 235/85 16 put on yesterday and so far I love them. Everyone was right about the size. What a difference! Now, I am about to take a road trip and need to trim up the rear wheel wells. Does anyone have any pictures of the process they went through? I have access to a Dremel, but need to know which bit to use to ease the procedure. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you are only going on a road trip, you probably don't have to worry about any rubbing. You are only going to rub on full compression, which is very unlikely to happen on road. Otherwise, Mike Bauer's pics show the area you need to trim.

what i am going to do once i am able to mount my 235-85 bridgestones is do the 'camel trophy cut' - it's a line that parallels the arc of the larger tire removing a triangle shaped section from the fender- just take a look at any good side shot of a real ct disco and you will see it.

there was an issue of lro that is a few months old about the rebuild of 'alice' the camel - there is an excellent shot of the trimmed fender there

There is also a picture that compares the standard Disco and the Camel Disco rear fenders on the Camel Trophy Discovery homepage. Looks like the cut opens the fender in a way similar to the old series Land Rovers. I'll try to post the link: www.camel-discovery.com/startpage2.htm

know what? i found that the rangie classic's rear quarter panels came from the factory with a shape that's already close to what you need to do to a Disco's fender to put a 255/75 or larger tire!

Thanks again for all the info. Leslie, I have a D1 and made the cuts yesterday. It turned out like the CT rig, but I didn't remove quite as much. No rubbing on the rear now, but I still have to do the steering stops up front. Thanks for the help.

I am running OME MD springs and ProComp 9000 Shocks. So far, everything feels better than stock. I installed the new BFG Commercial T/A Trac tires in 235/85 last week. The bigger tires definitely look better. Ho was right; they should have come that way from the factory. I will try to have some pics posted on my Gallery later this week. Rob, how bad has your on road performance suffered from that tire size?

Surprisingly, not much. I took a road trip to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Monday and Tuesday (about 500 miles round trip) and really did not notice much of a difference. Up the mountain passes it was pretty slow (like always) but on the flat it was really smooth. I like the taller stance, about 3.5 to 4" higher than stock. I know gas mileage has suffered some, but since I haven't run the figures yet, I can't give you specifics. The tires do wander a touch when they hit the groove patterns in the highway, so you need to pay attention. I had no problem cruising at 75 all day long. By the way, this is on a '95. Hope this helps.
