I was having some trouble with my CB getting power yesterday so I checked my wires to make sure a wire hadn't come loose. I removed the dome light checked my connections, everything appeared to be OK, and while bolting the second bolt (upper left)my wrench made contact with the contact for the dome light's bulb. Had a small spark, and didn't think much of it until I realized my dome lights, no longer worked nor did my stereo, and my clock was blank. I checked and replaced fuses 3, 12 & 13, still appears as though there is no power to the dome/interior lights or stereo. Everything else appears to be working just fine. My CD changer still has power, and the clock intermittently works, but then resets, which seems to be associated with starting, and when driving and the Disco or it has been running, or its blank if the Disco has been off for a little while. In the driveway while replacing fuses I tried turning on the radio, a couple of times I got the CODE screen to pop up for maybe half a second on two tries, but then the screen went blank, appearing to have no power. I should have disconnected the battery before I checked the CB connections, but I was in a hurry and just didn't think much about what I was doing (kicking myself in the ass now). Any idea what all I may have fried, and how I can get the dome lights and stereo working again? According to my shop manual my moment of genius may have fried my stereo, so maybe this is an excuse to get that pretty new Pioneer head .
Thanks,
Jon

PS: Where can I get a hold of one of those Discovery electrical manuals?

Don't panic! Most likely there is another burnt out fuse. I did something similar a while back, and blew the dome light fuse. British electrics defies logic. Check all the fuses under the steering wheel with a meter, i bet there is another one waiting to be replaced. My bet is on #10.

If you still want an ETM manual - Nathan can get 'em for you.

Thanks for the help Axel, I'm going to replace #10 when I get home today and see what happens. Also what kind of meter do I need to check fuses, and where would I go about getting one?

Hey Axel...what's with fuse 10???? My 94 Disco keeps on intermitantly blowing this fuse thus taking out the right side lamp circuit and the dash lights....fine for a few weeks, then blows for some reason that I cannot find....any ideas or other fuses I should look at????

Well I got home and replaced #10 and nothing has changed. No dome lights, no radio, and the clock is still screwed up. I could probably live with out the dome lights and clock, though they'd be nice to have, but I need my stereo! I can't make my commute with no radio!
I gonna go through all the fuses and see what I find.

Yes, you need to check them all. You can get a cheap multimeter or test light at radio shack to test the the fuses. With a multimeter you don't need to pull the fuse to test it, though.

I'll go pick up a multimeter Wed morning and see what I find. Tonight I made some new discoveries on my way home:
When the dome light switch is in the middle position, and the headlights are on, the CD changer constantly makes a clicking type sound while at the same time a faint green light shows from inside the tape deck corresponding to each click, and the clock shows digits. If I turn the headlights off, the clicking stops.
When the dome light switch is moved to the bottom position, the clicking from the cd changer stops, but the clock goes blank.
I've forgotten what happens when it's in the top position.
Anyone know if theres some powersource or relay or circuit or something that the stereo, clock, and dome lights share? I'm very confused at the moment. Also, once I get the multimeter what will I need to look for, or is it pretty much self explanatory?
Thanks for reading all my longs posts, hopefully I'll get this thing figured out and fixed here soon.

Sometimes there is just no logic to Lucas electrics. My first car was a TR7, full of Lucas, and whenever I pushed in the lighter, the right headlight popped up for a couple seconds and back down. Never cared to spend hours fixing it.

JC:

When you get the meter, explain to the salesperson what you want to do, and have him demonstrate the meter for you. It's simple, but easier when someone actually show you.

Don't forget the fuse panel under the hood. There are fuses out there for lighting, ignition, etc. Some of these are the main fuses that supply power to the primary circuits and the fuse panel inside devides that up more. If you have lost power to several circuits that don't seem to be on one particular fuse on the inside fuse panel it may be the main fuse under the hood.
