Leslie, is a mini street legal in the US? Is this one yours? Sure makes a statement!

Yes, Minis are street-legal.... Anything 25-years old or older is importable. This one is a 1976, so it is legal.

David at the Thatched Roof Garage is the (PROUD) owner of it, but it IS for sale... just in case you feel like you wanna make a statement yourself!

If you're interested, I might be able to get him to make ya a deal! :)

So how hard is it to find a set of tires that small? Do you get them from the local Lawn and Tractor shop?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Leslie N. Bright (Leslie) on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 - 10:39 am: Edit

LOL!!

We joke that we stole 'em off of a go-kart...

Call your local tire shop, though, and they can get 'em for ya... just plan ahead, instead of driving in and expecting to get the new ones right then.

FYI.... they're 10" wheels.

PS: Like Series Rover parts, parts for a Mini are cheap and plentiful in the UK....

How much space is under the hood? Could you swap a better engine in it.. Something in a turbo charged 4 banger and around 240 to 300 hp? Or would you have to loose the back seat and put the engine in the back for that?

Uh.... uh.....

These little things ARE race/rally-cars, w/o going to anything THAT big.

You would want to look at upgrading the thing into Mini-Cooper specs if you wanted to go that route....

'I' wouldn't want anything bigger, mounted behind me, in it.... it's a great little car as-is, w/ reasonable performance upgrades available.

Email David and ask, though, he'll give ya the low-down on the nitty-gritty details.... thatched@usit.net .

BTW....

I don't know what the specs for the Coopers were, as far as output.... Again, David would have a far better idea than I... I'm still earning my way around other British cars, as I began with and have still stuck with Rovers....

Don't really want one as it is just toooo small.. Would rather have a motorcycle. Was just wondering.. Anybody ever paint their Disco like that?

I love those little cars, they are actually pretty big on the inside.

The new mini is reported to be under $20K loaded out. We are seriously considering one for a commuter car. I always liked the Mini's and under $20K lets me keep my Rover and not worry about gas mileage.

Here is another pic. It's the interior this time... It's not quite clear in the picture but in front of the stick shift are toggle switches "ala-60's" style controls for lights, hvac and various other stuff. Pretty cool!
