D1 square headlamp upgrade to D2 type?

RF headlight reflector is slightly rusted, considering replacement...

I've read in the archives that D1 headlights can be upgraded to D2 without any other mods. Does this also hold for the square headlamps on my '94? Obviously I'll have to replace the indicators too..
