After the MAR - my wiper motor started acting up - on intermittent it seems to struggle to pull the wiper blades across the windcsreen and it won't auto-return anymore (won't return on regular speed either)

Any ideas or similar probs out there?

Damn Rovers - why didn't they mount the motor on the firewall where it should be!

maybe you should convert to a PTO wiper motor. Damn electrics motors are POSs

Yeah -but I think I'd go through U-joints really quick if the driveshaft had to come up through the floor and under the dash!

Or - I could convert to the AMC vacuum operated system - works fine as long as your not at WOT or need the wipers while you're on the highway!

Been there - and can you imagine: Even fixed it. And for once it did NOT involve removing engine, ashtray, propshafts, AND rear door...

Your symptoms sounds like my Discovery XSM-problem:
My best guess is this: Try copius amounts of CRC 5-56, WD40 or any thin dinosauroil on all the wiper linkages. This solved my problem.
They seem to like a bit of oil from time to time - guess it's all in the servicesheet, but...you know...MTBF is always shorter than service intervals, so service will be postponed...

A final comment: Please do not start the wiper while you're doing this, as they will happily cut your fingers!!!!

Wow, just getting ready to post the same thing! My 95 Disco does that. If set on intermittant they are TOO intermittant, they'll go a few inches, stop, go a few inches, stop, etc. etc. If on normal speeds they are fine but don't return to the bottom so I have to manually stop them at the bottom. Rear is funny that way too. I remember reading somewhere that they only go with the vehicle is moving (rear one) and that seems to be the case, goes good when I'm moving. Go figure, haven't looked into it yet. It hasn't rained much here in AZ in a while.

...Maybe I could strap the wife to the roof rack with a squeegie...(that one might get me in trouble)

My 95 same same, the rear will not work if doors are open, don't have to be moving though, must be a safety thing. The wash at rear only piddles on about 3 inches of window so you can make mud out of the dirt, designed that way for a reason I guess.
