I posted about a week ago about the repair shop that wanted 1600 to completely do my brakes (rotors, pads, and hardware).
I just bought all the parts from Nathan (boatbuggy) and called the shop to see how much it would be to install the parts. Turns out it is going to be around 800 bucks total for the parts and labor. Go figure. Thanks Nathan.

That is the dealer game. I have heard that most dealers make more money on service than on sales...that is why most service writers are ex-salesman! It is pretty much the same at any foreign car dealer...JUST DON'T DO IT!
DIY, or find another non-dealer mechanic to give you honest advice.

Bill, you have the parts already, right? I haven't had to do rotors yet, but I'm confident we could EDUCATE ourselves and then get it done. If you'd prefer to have a licensed mechanic perform the labor, then I can point you a local licensed mechanic who will do it for far less than the dealer.

should of asked this first: you're Bill in Phx, aren't you?

Thanks guys, but yes I am in Chicago....but not for long! Will be driving to northern Idaho in 2.5 weeks for the winter; hence the new brakes at this point.

In the future I will be doing these jobs DIY when I have a place to do it!
