I recently installed OME MD springs. I called Rancho to get a part number for the 9000 I want. There tech guys told me they do not make 9000's or even 5000's for the disco. Can this be confirmed? If anyone is running 9000's on OME springs let me know.
Thanks

I don't think that they make a exact replacment shock but, you can get ones that will work.. However, I belive that you need to change you shock mounts.. I'm sure some one that knows more then I (which is real easy) will fill you in on the deal.

I have OME HD with Ranchos. I have the 9207 front and 9234 rear. The rear has more travel than standard, so I had to install RTE upper mounts, cones, and extended brake lines. I'm sure that there is a shorter travel shock, but if you decide to go that way, you might be better off by getting the OME or Bilstein shocks.
Go to http://www.discoweb.org/mikerupp to see rear travel.

The most similar to standard are 9157F and 9159R. Many go with 9157F and 9221R or 9207F and 9221R for more length.

Do I have to change the shock mounts for the 9000s or will they fit on the stock mounts?

My RS9234 fit the stock upper shock mounts. True, the stud for the mount is a larger diameter than the eye hole on the shock. No problem, little silicon lubricant and some persuasion, pops right in. If it's very tight, then take a 1/2" drill bit and hone out the shock bushing little. Oh yeah, a 2x4 block of wood between the rear bump stops and the chasis. Low budget (but effective) solution bump stop extender that I stole from Alex.
All this is done on a '91RR though!

I'm also running OME HD's and Rancho 9000's. However, the 9000's I got fit directly onto my stock shock mounts with no midifications necessary. When I went looking for the shocks I also found that they are not made specifically for the Disco. They do, however, have an application for early classic Range Rovers that will work perfectly on the disco (which is what I have). Also, the shocks are stock length, not the extendend kind.
If you need the shock numbers, let me know and I will see if I can dig them up.
Good Luck!

Chris,
Are you happy with the stock length or do you wish you would of gone longer? I want some good articulation with the longer but I really dont want to incurr the cost of retainers and brake line extensions.

Personally, I think for my purposes the articulation is great. If I had it to do over again, I would either do the same thing or go with the OME's. However, I like the fact that on long road trips you can adjust the Ranchos to compensate for the increased weight.
Back to your question--yes, I am happy with stock length and would prefer to have the articulation I get now coupled with lockers rather than huge amounts of articulation. But that I just my opinion. I hope I don't start anything with that last statement

i agree with chris i really like my stock length rancho 9000s...no mods done, adjustibility and for what i do they are great!...they have held up considering the abuse they have been through...

Chris,
If that is the case could you dig up the numbers you used on your disco? Right now I am looking at 9207 up front and 9221 in the rear.

I found my old receipt and they are the same numbers as John resfrenced in the 4th post. 9157/9159. Like I said, I have been very happy with these and am running OME HD's front and rear along with 235/85 16's.
