The check engine light means that there's something wrong. The Service Engine light is the one where it just needs to be turned off - it tells you it needs a service

Hey Ben,
you mentioned that you took your truck to LRGR. I live in GR. We have a club here.

We're going mudding on Sunday. Perhaps you would like to go along?

You can take it to any garage with an OBD II compliant computer. As long as your truck is a '96 or newer disco. Pep Boys can tell you what is up too......they charged me $60 I think to give me the diagnosis.

I took mine to a European auto shop as opposed to the dealer when mine came on. They connected it to their computer for about $33 and told me it was an "ABS rough road load fault" Your guess is as good as mine. They just reset the light and it has gone away. Most everyone I have talked to about this has has a similar experience. It is usually nothing. Just find a way to get the light turned off.

Brad,
L.R. dealer charged me $41.00 to turn mine off. Just a cold weather issue with mine.

It took me few minutes to fix it. Tools? 2 inch construction nail.
