...my buddy with the '69 FJ40? Two days ago he picked up a 2002 DII from the dealership over by Tyson's corner. That bastard. At least he's seen the light.

He damn well better get it off-road, especially after all the shit he helped me put my rig through. Oh, just wait till I get behind the wheel of it....:)

He's movin to Hotlanta next week...

Mr. Peanut rears his shelled head! We were talkin about you around the campfire at Truckhaven...everyone was convinced that I was Mr. Peanut. I told everyone that I'm not so far gone that I carry on conversations with myself online...

Wonder how much more he paid then if he would have went to LR Alexandia.. No way I would ever buy a car from HBL.. They even charge more for service. 20 bucks more just for an oil change..

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By 94Rover on Thursday, October 18, 2001 - 02:37 pm: Edit

Hell HBL charges you to browse the lot, and even more to come inside the dealership to talk purchasing.....and even more to look at their used Porches', and even more to discuss....oh hell you all get the point....

It sounds like a nice ride...Black SE with bahama beige, tinted windows, 12 speaker/250watt CD stereo (or whatever the premium is), 18" wheels, etc. He'll get 16" steelies & lugs for the dirt. He was asking me about extended warranties above & beyond the factory 4yr/50k mi. Dealer wanted about $2800? I told him to shop for 3rd party warranties...

You guys wouldn't like him, he's a real asshole. :)

Hey Skids, when are you going to chime in, and when are you going to send me a picture, you rat bastard???

WOW. Thanks for the heads up on HBL. I guess I'll have to ride down to Alexandria if I have any warranty issues. I went to HBL to drive some Discos before buying one from a broker for about 7k less than HBL was asking.

So if HBL sucks, which is better, Alexandria or Rockville? Also, can anyone recommend a good indy shop?

It seems like there a lot of NoVA people on this board. Anyone wanna take a newbie 4 wheeling?

Sorry, got a little off-topic there.

Ron

I haven't been to Rockville but, I do go to Alexandria and I like them.. Their folks are nice and the B.S. doesn't flow freely like most places.. So far they have been really straight forward and helpful to me.

As for the trail ride I don't know what I'm doing either so I don't think you want me dragging you around. Peter's Mill is pretty easy though.

Ron,
I have used Arlignton Motor Cars once (it's in Clarendon), and my disco's going in there again next week for a fluids change (I live in an apartment and fluids are difficult to deal with). Seem pretty okay and were recommended from other sources. If you want, I'll let you know how the second round goes.

I'm pretty much a newbie as well, but maybe we can take a ride sometime.

Well, when I saw that post yesterday, (my wierd) thinking was that maybe he was pretty good with the manipulation of computer graphics? (I know, I know, a lot of people, well MOST are a lot more computer literate with images than me ...) Okay, it was a stupid guess. (red face)

yeah, Jeff, it could be a covert government op to infiltrate the dweb! Or maybe it's latent Nazi activity; it's the oldest trick in the book - get them laughing with some peanut humor, then hit them when they least suspect it Go git 'em for us, Jeff.

Okay... this is starting to sound like an episode of the mole... The DiscoMole.

Where was the mole sitting at Truckhaven?

What color of Disco does the mole drive?

When did the Mole buy his disco?

The person who answers the least correct answers will be eliminated from discoweb.

Stay tuned...

We got our Disco I through HBL, it was a great experience and our sales guy, John, was nothing but helpful and accomodating. I would never take it back for service tho, too much $$. A couple of good local shops are Red Line Motors in Purcellville (west of Leesburg on Rt.7- ask for Burch) and British Motorcars on Rt. 50 in Chantilly.
Eric, Tate & Ron- I know some good spots west of the Metro DC area suitable for newbies and hardcore drivers alike. I'd steer clear of Peter's Mill.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Eric N (Grnrvr) on Friday, October 19, 2001 - 09:44 am: Edit

Why steer clear of Peter's Mill aside from the fact that it is an easy trail (dirt road)?

Pricks pricks pricks! Maybe ole REbel Rover here fit their criteria on what a Rover shopper should be.... I called and they said they had many Rovers in stock . I get there and they had two. Then when I asked them about it they were ,,,,,well,,,,PRICKS...

Kyle

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Tate on Friday, October 19, 2001 - 11:16 am: Edit

Rebel,
I'm interested in the places around here, although I don't see the need to avoid Peter's Mill. Maybe a short trip next weekend?

Kyle,
To their credit, HBL has gotten a lot more Rovers into their average stock. I've been over there a couple times (I used the glass guy they use--he was good) and I always feel dirty when I leave--all the salesmen hawking around in suits... I don't care to have them work on my truck, though. But there never seems to be a shortage of customers there. Guess it's the people who buy D90s and wax them. :-)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Eric N (Grnrvr) on Friday, October 19, 2001 - 04:01 pm: Edit

HBL is for people that buy G-Wagons to put in their drive way to impress their neighbors.. However, I'm digging the Yellow Lotus at the Izuzu dealer across the street.. They got some nice classics too... Wonder where the hell they are getting them from...

I might be up for Peter's Mill next weekend..

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Rebel Rover on Friday, October 19, 2001 - 04:05 pm: Edit

And what criteria would that be enlightened one? The question was posed as to the experiences people have had with HBL. Mine happened to be good. Sleaziness is not just the domain of Rover dealers, it's pretty much rampant in the industry.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Eric N (Grnrvr) on Friday, October 19, 2001 - 04:47 pm: Edit

Yes, that is true... Any car dealer can be sleazy... Go to the Dodge dealer on RT1 in Alexandria... Now those bastards are real sleazy.. I'm sure that they (HBL) may have had a change in staff since I last went there so maybe the folks there are better.. I'm not going to go and find out though as the few times that I did go there were enough to black list that place for me.. I have talked to some people at work though that have bought cars from them (two of which were Discos.. one new D2 and one used D1) and they both paid more then what they could have gotten at LR Alexandria or any where else for that matter.. The one girl who's hubby bought her a CLK got ripped hard... She paid $1500 then what American Service Center wanted.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Kyle on Friday, October 19, 2001 - 04:57 pm: Edit

I didnt say sleazy , I said , PRICKS ! Also have a friend that worked there as a mechanic for a few years. He had the same thoughts. There is also something very unsettling about a guy in a nice suit trying to sell a 4X4 . I didnt say I knew what the criteria was rebel , I just said that maybe you fit into theirs...
THey are pricks and for that I have to be the"Enlightened one" ? I dont think it takes much to spot a prick...

Rat Bastard just sent me a video of his "new Disco". Yeah right, I'm sure it's a video of his neighbor's new Land Rover, since all I saw was a black Disco in someone's driveway. Not like Other Dude was behind the wheel or anything (hell, he wasn't even in the vid - he probably snagged the video off the web from somewhere). Like I said, he's an ass.
