Can anyone tell me what is the best way to remove the exhaust manifold without breaking the bolts?
Thanks

Soak thouroughly with a rust remover overnight...good luck on not wringing them off, be prepared.

John pretty much covered that one. The bolts holding the manifold to the head shouldnt be a problem. The little metal tabs that are there to lock them will be. You have to bend them back over flat before they will turn. Those bolts holding the head pipe to the manifold,,,,well,,,as John said,,,,good luck. Some come right off , most dont. Dont bully them , if they are real tight coming off work them back and forth some to try and free them up. That dont always work either...

They have an "update" kit for them. Stretch bolts and spacers.

Might be worth considering.

I always pulled mine out with the truck hot and had luck with that but kyle and john have definately done it more than me.

Be prepared to weld in new studs at the bottle though.

They ought to have an updated something in that arena. That is the one and only thing that pisses me off about taht truck. Like it would have broke them to put better fastners on there and a better flange...

Its only for the bolts into the engine.

The three little buggers on the bottom are the same.

Thanks for the info Guys,

Kyle, it sounds like you are suggesting using finesse with a wrench instead of cracking it loose with an impact. Is that right?

Out of curiosity, Are the bolts threaded directly into the aluminum, or is there some kind of insert like a Heli-coil in the head?

Do you guys think it's worth getting new bolts or will the old ones torque well enough? Should I get a new manifold gasket or re-use the old one?

Thanks,
Greg P
