No you are not screwed...pull the radio out. Contact your local Land Rover dealer, have a sob story ready...give them ALL the numbers on the back of the radio, and even give them your VIN #......talk them out of charging you the $40 fee....smile and thank them excessivly when you are given your radio code....after you get this number write it down somewhere in your truck(for instance your owners manual, or the inside of your fuel door, or on one of the stickers under your hood....

be careful when you are inputting your code not to do it wrong more than three times....if you do you must wait for an hour to input it again.....
this is one of those stupid theft deterents that carried over from the late 80's-remember when it used to be soooooo popular to have your stereo stolen if you owned an european vehicle......

Does this occur with a Disco II as well? I want to remove the Land Rover unit and install a CD Player.

Paul- the radio code is a feature of the head unit only. All Land Rover units have this feature. If you plan on removing the factory unit, you will not need the code any longer.

david-
If you have given it more than 3 tries, turn the ignition to the first acc. position; radio on; and leave it alone for one hour. after the hour, use the 'preset radio station' buttons to enter in your code. IF the radio beeps before you reach the end of the code, Stop, and restart with the first number. use all five. sometimes you can bypass the one hour deal by holding down the "band" button for ten or fifteen seconds. If your radio will not take the code after all this, you may have a problem with the unit itself.
Hope this helps,
Craig

What make of radio was fitted to '94 Discos?

I've a JVC (KD-GS610 f/loader CD). Sooner or later the battery will die on me and I don't know whether this is an original factory fitted radio or not. The vehicle was built in the UK.

My RRC lwb-build date 11-94, (reg 95 US spec) orig
system supplied by Pioneer to LR. It has new dash
soft-type same as D1. Kenwood likely aftermarket,
no code. Cheers- doug 95-lwb
