I know, I know this is a gimme. Tuesday I ran into the back of a Kia Sportage at a light, going about 5 miles an hour. My brush gaurd on my D2 from aB I think, bent backwards and creased my hood and cracked my turn signals. Looks great now! Anyway replacing with an ARB, looking to do the strenghthening everyone else has done to prevent flexing, have a Warn 9500i going on Friday also. Need to get a remote, any help? Matt G

Weld it on my friend!!!

I recently found out they are crap also. I rear ended a Honda Oddessey mini-van. No visible damage to him, but the A-bar was crushed into the bumper, and the top of the guard nearly hit the hood. Also the headlight spray jet was sheared off.
The guard was a big waste of money. I'll probably go get a Trek Outfitters bumper. Any have opinions on the Trek bumper?

Slider - When you weld it on also make sure you have an Angle Grinder too just incase your Winch Goes Haywire.

hmmmmmm....exactly what are the brush bars designed for?????i dont think its for running thru small cars. in a car crash, these parts are designed to bend and fold. you want them to, if they dont then the energy of the crash goes straight into the passenger compartment. i replaced my front bumper and brush bar with an ARB, yes it will not bend as easy as the SAE parts thus not giving off much crash energy, but i drive like i have a lil sense!

The crash was unintentional, I was at a complete stop, then moved maybe 4 feet before hitting the car, speed was 3-5 miles an hour, for this piece to come all the way on my hood is sad, it is because of the leverage were it mounts. Just stating the obvious Mikey poo. and yes I will be replacing the stock s with an ARB

every time I see brush bars mounted on these SUVs (or similar ones), I can't help but wonder if the money was well spent

mikey poo, hmmm i havnt been called that in a while. i agree with the suv + brush bar combo. in all truth what is with the whole suv thing. just because it sits higher and has more than two doors doesnt make it a true SUV. ford and chev. attempts to make its oversized station wagen look like real SUV's is a joke. just hangin extra metal on the bumpers makes not a SUV but an insurers nightmare. and yes even our LR's can fall into this trap. buy the ARB i love mine and when you "bump" the next SUV clone it will be your insurance making the large payout.

I never thought the brush guard was a battering ram, but I didn't expect it to crumple in a 5 mph bump. Considering it was my steel against his plastic bumper, I would have thought I would have made out a little better in deal.

The problem here is that every new car has to meet the 5 mph bumper test -- which if I understand correctly, it is supposed to protect the car from any damage to the body of the car. therefore, the KIA's bumper did what it was supposed to.
I don't know if the brush bars are supposed to meet the same standards, but I will assume they don't considering what happen to you.
The interesting thing is that the KIA performed really bad according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

Don't forget what a brush guard IS: It is a BRUSH guard. Used for bending brush away when on the tracks, to protect your front headlights and indicators - and maybe also a bit of painting etc. It is NOT for bending foreign steel.
The prize from obtaining this protection, is just what's being discussed here: When not bending brush away, but rather hitting steel, it will bend and make more damage than without it.
Look at it as a bet:
* My bet is that I will need protection from brush and limbs and small trees, more than I will need to protect my hood etc. from the brushbar eating japs.
Same thing goes for the limb risers:
* I bet I will need it more for rising limbs of green, rather than cutting limbs off pedestrians.
Others bets are different.

Get an RTE bumper or something on the order of thick wall 3"x3" square tubing.
That will hold. Frame will fail first

The factory brush bar is crap, mine cracked where the arms (from the frame) mount to that amazing thin center bar. Someone backed into me, my truck was parked. If only Rovertym had something for a D2. Clarance.
