When I am driveing dow the road and hit any bump the rear axle feels like it drops then the body on top of it hard. I have changed shocks but not springs. I currently have 75k miles on the Disco.
It is starting to get very annoying. Could it be the springs?
Thanks in advance.

Rear ball joint maybe?

loose body mounts.
when you hit a bump, it'll throw the body up and come down very harshly and make body to frame contact.

Where are the rear body mounts located?
Thanks

crawl under and you'll see them connecting the body to the frame, they'll have bushings on both sides.

Are there two thin rubber pads 1/4" thick that looks like is between the frame to the body inside the rear wheel well. On the passenger side there is no space between the rubber pad on the driver side the forward one I can stick a pen between the rubber pad and the frame. The rear one has no gap between it. It seems to me that this could be causing the problem. Anybody think this might be it? If so how do I remedy this problem. I was looking for some way to tighten it back down but can't see any way to do it.
Thanks
Jim

Can anyone help?

Mine had a similar noise - was the rear ball joint - the one on top of the rear axle housing - not a big cost fix.

is it something I can do myself?

Maybe, you'll need to be able to press out & in the joint but otherwise it's just a case of undoing a few nuts & bolts.

Jim, my Disco does the same, the rubber between frame and cabin has rotted away, I think a piece of car tyre cut to fit will be a good replacement. You may want to check your suspension bushes too, I found all rubber rotting but I am in the tropics where everything rots. Good luck, Bill
