I hate to admit but it looks like the first add-on for my stock D-II will be a dog guard. Are the genuine $220 guards that much better than the generic $70 units? I have read some postings about mesh guards but haven't seen any pics. I don't mind spending a little extra for quality stuff but I heard the Rover guards rattle. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I have the genuine dog guard for the D1. The genuine product mounts with two brackets just behind the latches for the rear seats. After you do the install, the dog guard can taken in and out in about 1 minute. It is very convenient. The dog guard is pretty solid. The dog guard will vibrate a bit at highway speeds, but it would take a pretty strong person to actually break it.

I'm not too famaliar with the generic dog guards. The generic units that I have seen use a spring loaded bar between the floor and the ceiling. It uses the strength of the spring to hold the guard in place. I'd imagine that you will end up trashing your headliner pretty quickly with that setup.

I hope this helped.
Thanks,
Mike B.
