Can anyone gimme some insight on these two tires?...I currently run the 265/80-16 TSL radials, and am thinking of going to the Trekkers...are they better or worse on rocks, snow, gravel, mud, grass, pavement, wet pavement???

thanks a lot for any help

Etreme Trekkers are unbeatable in slippery clays, they keep up with a bogger in deep mud. The side lugs are nearly paddle like when spinning at full noise, and keep you pushing forward. They are the best self cleaning tyre I have ever seen, baseball size lumps of mud spit out the back under power. Even without wheel spin they clean, we have come to a stop after winching and the lugs are clear. They seem to work well on rocks though I think a wider tyre works better on rock with more surface area in contact with the rock. At low pressures they fold over rocks and the lugs pull you over quite nicely. With the snow, it is a bit harder to get on top with the thin tyre but we reqularly air them down to 4 PSI or less, in snow and they really start to work well. They cut the top off grass and bite into the soil underneath.
On pavement they howl, you will hear them before you see the vehicle, but being semi-directional they drive fantastic, we have had them up to speeds about 160km and handled fantastic. Like any agressive tyre they are exciting on wet bitumen and stopping distances should be adjusted to suit. We are running a set of 32x9.5 extreme's on a 94 Discovery and are very impressed, they are actually about the same size as a 33 BFG mud terrain. The 35x10.5 Extremes on the other Discovery require a bit more work to be able to fit, but if you have the gearing, power and clearance to run with them they are the best off-road tyre on the market.
The Jungle Trekkers are the previous model but are still a top performer, they probably work a little better than the Extremes in snow and rock, but everywhere else the Extremes out perform them.

Any indication of sidewall strength Wayne? Say compared to an XZL or Silverstone or TSL

They are 6 ply Bias correct or are they radial and you have to run them with tubes?

In any case Simex said they were bringing them to the US market a while back but no sign of them thus far.

I tried to order some Trekker's from England, and they said NO. They're not DOT approved. I tried to tell them they would never be on the road :) That didn't work. So, I'm having a friend ship some to me. I'm going with the 32x9.5 on my 97 disco. We'll see how long this takes.

Ron,
The side walls are indestructable, the are a 6 ply sidewall, we have run with and without tubes, with no problems. The boys in Northern 4X4, Alaska have a few sets after coming back from Malaysia last year.

Thanks Wayne...

I currently run a massive 4 front and 6 rear lift, and am thinking of going the 35" way...we'll see...

I appreciate all your input...

Thanks Wayne,

Seems like I should send some more emails to Simex US and see if I can drum up support :)

I also know a couple of the Northern 4 x 4 people so I maybe will ask them.

Not like much of anything else is DOT approved on my truck :)

Is there a website that lists teh different size Simex tires avail? I know they'd have to be imported, just want to see what they offer. Tried Simex & SimexTires and neither works.

Ron, thanks. Sometimes the obvious evades me!
