What do you conse=ider to be the best CB available on the market?

I currently have a Cobra in my D110 Tdi and a uniden in my D90.
I like the Cobra's alot. I have also checked into the Ranger's. Does anyone know anything about Ranger? Does anyone have a Ham installed in their Disco? or other LR? Do you like it?

What opinions do you have on CB's?

Uniden had the contract to make the Cobra CBs for years. When Uniden lost the contract, they basically "copied" the current Cobra designs and started competing with Cobra. So, the quality of the two units should be comparable.

I too like the Cobra models.

Thanks,
Mike B.

Galaxy would be my preferred CB. I own a Cobra, but the Uniden Grant is nice, Cherokees are pretty nice too.

Several people on the D90 list have Ham setups and seem to like them.

Both Cobra and Uniden are good brands. However, a CB is pretty much a CB. The real difference is in your antenna setup.

Both the Uniden Grant and the Galaxy radios are SSB. Not sure if you need those features.

Axel is waaay right. A $300 CB with an untuned antenna is no better than a cheap handheld. A decent CB with a great antenna setup will work pretty damn well.

I get my CB stuff at a local shop. Guy does good work and stands by his products. Try to find someone in your area who does good work.

I don't know about where you guys live, but here, it seems like a lot of the good CB guys I run into are either Vietnam comms guys or long time Ham operators. These guys seem to really know their shit.

I have a couple of Wilson antennas that work pretty well. I use quick disconnects so I can swap them out easily. I use a longer one on the highway, and a one footer on tight trails. Since I have a roof rack, my antenna is mounted right in the middle, as that gives the most even ground plane. I also have a SWR meter so that I can keep my antennas tuned.

As for the best place to get CB accessories, I have found that most truck stops (for obvious reasons) have a good selection of cb's and accesories. Look for a Flying J, Pilot, TA, Bosselman etc. along a major Interstate exchange in your area.
