Wife calls me this morning and says the 95 Disco (83k miles) stalled 4 times on her way to work. Plugs & Wires are only 15k miles old. Fuel Filter is to be replaced this weekend. Any other ideas? Always thought the fuel filter would act up when trying to accelerate. Also I have had some check engine light issues that I reset a few months ago. Could it be the infamous stepper motor? Suggestions appreciated.

Jorge, it sounds like a stepper motor. I replaced mine on my 95 a few months back. No problems since then. I went with the AC Delco part number that you can find in the archives, as I do not remember the part number off the top of my head. It is a simple 5 minute replacement. I can tell you that the original part from Nathan Crabtree is also available, but the AC Delco is cheaper. I think that I paid about $30 or so for it. Good luck, and remember to set your idle speed if you go with the AC Delco part.

I found a couple different ones. One by Tomco at Discount auto Parts for 34.97. Also a Napa version for 56.00. Will pick one up today. Do i need to set the idle speed with these? How do I do that?

Also have a Borg Warner one at Pep Boys for 39.99.
May pick that one up later today. Do I need to just remove the cover and replace it, then replace the cover? I've been told not to mess with the idle.

Check the wires are properly seated
Check the Dizzy cap and rotor for signs of wear or arcing

Any code from under the passenger seat?

Havnt checked yet, she isnt home. If there was a code, wouldnt the check engine light come on? I didnt replace the cap & rotor when I did the plug change..may do that now as well.

Seems all these issues come up when I slack off a bit on maintenance. For example, I was going to change the hoses and the top one went before I got around to it. Had some stepper motor issues previously and it went away. Should have just replaced it earlier.

Bought the Borg Warner Stepper Motor (ICV) at Pepboys for $39.99. Its the cross-refernced AC Delco and had been listed as an alternate on other posts. Old one had lots of black carbon. Put the new one on in literally five minutes with an adjustable wrench after taking off the connector. Can't believe the dealer wanted $140.00

Took it around the block and its idling great. Thanks.
