I was wondering if ARB or Trac-tech make lockers for a Disco 2. I remember reading in SUV magazine about some ARB customized Disco 2, and it had a rear diff lock. Does anybody know where I can get lockers for my Disco 2?

I think arb already has lockers for the Disco II! they are in Seattle call them.

I thought the new Discos had range rover axles...what about that.......thats what I have read somewhere

Yes NBS RR axles but the carrier is pretty much the same as the earlier RR/Disco/D90 carriers.

Carrier is the housing that holds the dif gears inside. when you install a locker you replace the carrier with the locker.

ok I understand it now....the carrier is the thing that contains all the pinion gears right

No it contains the spider gears and side gears.

The whole thing with ring and pinion gears is referred to as the third member.

I am planning on adding CDL in my disco 2. Would a locker increase traction any more?

Yes.

Lockers are for the axles. CDL is for the diff in the transfer case.

Are you guys 100% sure that the carrying case on a Discovery 1 is the same on a Discovery 2. Because Safari Gard has some diff guards specifically "designed" for the D2.

Both the series I and II Discovery use an RD56 airlocker.

So what is the carrying case, if this is the same?


Ok really dumb question - when you get a locker in general, do you get a new diff housing or just the inners. By diff housing I mean the big lumpy bit you can see from a distance.

You will just be changing the differential, this is the part that the ring gear bolts to. The 'housing' is the peice that the above mentioned assembly sits in(rather: from pinion flange to axle housing) more commonly referred to as a third member. the "big lumpy bit you can see from a distance" is part of the axle housing.

NO.

DII is a semi full floater. DI is a full floater. Plus the dif is on the other side in a DII.

You're right about the semi/full floater setups, but the diffs on a D1 vs. D2 are both on the passenger side. Both use the lt230 t-box, diffs need to be offset to PS.

I heard the dash will light up like a christmas tree with warning lights due to the ETC when lockers are engaged. Won't the ETC go nuts trying to hold a wheel locked-up.

Not true. If both wheels spin the same then ETC will be happy. What you may have heard is that if you engage the CDL (not locker) when the engine is off the ETC and ABS warning lights will come on. ETC (and ABS since it's the same system) will be dis-engaged if it detects the CDL is engaged when you start the vehicle. If you engage the CDL when the vehicle is already on then you you have ETC and ABS with the CDL and everyone is happy.
