Stupid question, do you drill through your frame to mount those??? Where else can you mount them (besides an ARB).

Lynden, mount it to your ARB. When you drill the hole through your bumper make sure there is enough room to reinforce with a small piece of steel plate on the inside of the bumper. Welded in place would be best but not necessary.

Ed H & All,

That single bolt shackle thing looks good, but I still favor the dixon bate since it has two bolts. It also has it's own pin, so you can attach your strap/bridle directly without a shackle.

I don't think that the single bolt is *bad*, but I think that two bolts with backing plates/washers can better distribute abuse to the bumper. If you mount them to an ARB (directly in front of the frame horns) you benefit from the ARB structural reinforcements as well.

Single bolt isn't neccessarily bad on a straight pull. However, if you start pulling at an angle, the metal you bolt to could start to deform, 'pucker'.

If you use the single bolt assembly make a backer plate as described above to distribute to 'twisting' force along a larger chunk of the support metal.

Are all of these units capable of being "snatched"? Forces generated during snatching can exceed 4 tons no? Especially when stuck in quagmire!

The Dixon-Bate's I have are 3.5 tonne rated. There is also a higher rated one - 5 tonne I think. The 3.5t is the same as mounted to the front of the Camel Disco's, and the 5t is on the rear of the Camel Disco's.

I've used my DB for pull-recovery but not snatching via kinetic rope. If I do a kinetic recovery, I'll just put a bridle (tree strap) between the two 3.5t DB's.
