Hi,

I would like to know how much suspension lift is the Ideal for Disco I to improve the off road abilities without to loose any on road stability.

For steering shaft issues, no more than 1 1/2", any more and your steering splined shaft/coupling would have to replaced for about $350.

I think I remember hearing that anything over 2inches would require a large amount of work to make things fit right. Even with two inches you will need to make a longer trans case shifter and new radiator mounts. You would also want to beef up the under body of the truck where the seats mount. You would also need to make spacers for the rear bumper and re-drill the holes for the front bumper so that it fits right as well.

There is no clear cut answer to that question. Also, If I were you, I would look at a suspension lift before I look at a body lift, as a suspension lift is a much easier proposition.

When I say that there is no clear cut answer, I mean that it all depends on what kind of trails you are going to run, how often are you going to go off road, what is your tolerance for decreased road performance caused by off road modifications, etc etc etc.

My best advise would be for you to not lift your Disco at all yet. Take it off road as it is, and find out what it's limitattions are for the trails you are running. By doing that, the kind of modifications you will need if any, will become obvious, and your question will answer itself.

Look Axel I owned a Toyota 4 Runner with 3" body lift.I was ok off road, even before the body lift.
Now that I own the Disco I think it is rather tall as total height but without big clearance from the ground.
Thats my problem. I know that I dont want a body lift but a suspension lift. I didn't phrase the question right.

Petros,

Like Axel said, get used to your Disco first before making any decisions regarding modifications. It is quite capable in stock form. I go offroading with guys that have Chevy pick-ups with 6" lifts, body lifts and 35s and my Disco, when it was stock, could keep up just fine.

When you decide to upgrade, an OME or 2" RTE suspension and 32" tires are an easy way to go and only costs slightly more than $1,000. With the 2" suspension lift, you wont lose any on-road performance.
