Anyone got any info on removing the center consol (D2)? Photos would be good. Want to take a look at the CDL bolt & stuff.

Thanks in advance,

Dean

Dean, the CDL shaft is not visible from inside. There's a metal plate riveted to the tranny hump, so you can't see anything. The Hi-Lo shifter is bolted to teh plate, so it would be a major pain to remove. That is why making the bracket fit the flats on the shaft is so difficult, but it can be done. There's a good post on the DSII board about how to remove the console, but you'll have to do a search for it. E-mail me and I can send youa pic or two of the entire assembly installed. Won't help much, but you will be able to see what it looks like.

Greg,

the bolt that fixes the bracket to the shaft - this screws onto the shaft itself, right? I am assuming the shaft has a thread on it?

The top of the shaft is threaded and accepts an 8mm nut. The base of the shaft has flats which a 10mm open-end wrench fits. My bracket is flat with the double-d shaped hole in it (this fits over the flats on the shaft), with flat legs pointing up. Each leg has a hole drilled in the end. The socket faces down, with the end that accepts the ratchet facing up. This socket has a hole drilled through it allowing you to run a bolt through each leg and the socket, attaching them together. From there you can insert the flexible joints and extensions, forming the flexible shaft that will extend into the cabin. Any clearer than before?

Greg,

We're getting there.

Just confirm: The bracket is bent at 90 degrees, with one face with the hand-cut hole. The other face consists of two legs with the socket between (man, gettin' dirty talk here!) and then on to the socket bar train.

Makes sense like this, so I hope its right!

The bracket is essentially a "U" with 90 degree bends instead of radii (did I use that term correctly?). The bottom is flat and that's whre the double d hole is.

The X's are the bracket, the B's are the bolt, the S's are the socketand the I's are the shaft. How's that?

Damn. Don't know what happened. It took out all the spaces! The X's formed a "U", the S's formed a smaller inverted "U", the I's were inline. Ah hell, forget it.

Greg,

I know, the disco software somehow takes out all superfluous spaces - look, I'm gong to put a load of spaces between here and here.

Yes just as I thought - all nicely lined up and no spaces! Is this really saving space, or just spaces?
