I have a 95 Disco with 72k miles. When I brake, on few occasions, the pedal gets hard and I hear what I believe to be the abs pump running from underneath the steering wheel. Other than when this happens, it brakes fine. I have a few questions.
Will a complete brake bleed help in correcting this problem?
How do I diagnose the ABS Fault? Is it a sensor?
In the meantime, while I try to fix the abs problem, can I disable the abs? If so , how do I safely do it?

I do think there is something wrong because I can't brake when this happens!! Its scary. You hear the noise at the same time the brake changes pressure and gets really hard to brake.
