I have noticed that on hills when stopped my rover sometimes/lots actually rolls backwards when in drive. Is it supposed to do this? Is something buggered up?
The reason for my concern is that I recently grenaded my rear diff when I rolled back trying to climb a steep nasty ledge. Now I am more aware of the rolling back on-road and am pedal shy and want to know the mechanics involved in rolling backwards while in drive so I dont blow another diff. Thanks All

you shouldnt blow a diff doing a little roll back. all cars roll back in drive some just as not as much as others I was in my buddies BMW series today and we were stopper on a hill and it was fine when we sped off...you should ask about this on the technical disscussion..I dont you should have any problems with your rear diff unless you abuse it

The stock diff is pretty weak. The cross shaft was probably already broen when you gassed it going backwards. If you are drifting backwards on a high traction surface and you gas it you are putting a great amount of force on the drive line. Just be easy with the throttle when you do it.
